Abstract

An electrical connector includes: an insulative housing comprising a base portion defining a rearward surface and a tongue portion extending forwardly from the base portion; plural conductive terminals affixed to the insulative housing and each having a contacting portion exposed to the top and bottom surfaces of the tongue portion, a fixing portion embedded in the base portion, and a soldering portion extending backwardly out of the base portion; a shielding plate affixed to the insulative housing; a shielding shell covering the insulative housing and defining a sol space with the rearward surface of the base portion; and a waterproof sheet; wherein the base portion further comprises a stepped portion in the sol space, the waterproof sheet is formed by solidification of liquid insulative material flowing from the stepped portion to the rearward surface, and the waterproof sheet encloses the stepped portion.

Claims

1. An electrical connector comprising:

an insulative housing comprising a base portion defining a rearward surface and a tongue portion extending forwardly from the base portion and defining opposite top and bottom surfaces thereof;

a plurality of conductive terminals affixed to the insulative housing and each comprising a contacting portion exposed to a corresponding one of the top and bottom surfaces of the tongue portion, a fixing portion embedded in the base portion, and a soldering portion extending backwardly out of the base portion;

a shielding plate affixed to the insulative housing;

a shielding shell covering the insulative housing and defining a sol space into which the rearward surface of the base portion is rearwardly exposed; and

a waterproof sheet received in the sol space;

wherein

the base portion further comprises a stepped portion located in the sol space and behind the rearward surface in a front-to-back direction, the waterproof sheet is formed by solidification of liquid insulative material flowing from the stepped portion to the rearward surface, and encloses both the stepped portion and the rearward surface.

The electrical connector as claimed in claim 1, wherein the shielding shell comprises a mating room receiving the tongue portion, the base portion comprises a rear portion extending backwardly, and the stepped portion comprises a plurality of stepped surfaces located in different planes at the back of the rearward surface.

3. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 2, wherein the base portion comprises a first inclining surface between the rear portion and the stepped surfaces, and a second inclining surface between the stepped surfaces.

4. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 2, wherein the rear portion comprises a plurality of through holes located between two adjacent conductive terminals.

5. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 2, further comprising a channel penetrating the sol space, and wherein the waterproof sheet fills in the channel.

The electrical connector as claimed in claim 2, wherein the rear portion of the base portion comprises a pair of resisting grooves each having a limiting wall on an upper surface thereof, and the shielding shell comprises a pair of resisting portions received in the resisting grooves and bound by the limiting walls.

The electrical connector as claimed in claim 1, wherein the base portion comprises a pair of protrusions protruding backwardly and located in a rear end of the waterproof sheet, and the shielding shell comprises a pair of rear blocking portions located at the rear end of the shielding shell and resisting forwardly against the protrusions.

The electrical connector as claimed in claim 1, wherein said base portion includes a rear portion with therein a plurality of through holes each disposed between the corresponding two conductive terminals along a transverse direction perpendicular to said front-to-back direction and communicating with the sol space.

9. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 8, wherein an inclining surface is formed in each of said through hole so as to lead the liquid insulative material from the stepped portion toward the rearward surface.

10. An electrical connector assembly comprising:

a printed circuit board having a main portion with opposite first and second surfaces in a vertical direction;

an insulative housing having a base portion and a tongue portion extending forwardly from the base portion in a front-to-back direction perpendicular to said vertical direction;

a row of first terminals and another row of second terminals affixed to the insulative housing, each of said first and second terminals comprising a contact portion exposed to the tongue portion, and an elastic portion extending rearwardly;

a metallic shielding plate affixed to the insulative piece, located between said row of first terminals and said row of second terminals in said vertical direction, and comprising a plurality of first and second elastic arms extending rearwardly; and

a metallic shielding shell enclosing the insulative housing for forming a receiving room;

wherein

the first elastic arm and the elastic portions of the first terminals abut against the first surface in the vertical direction, while the second elastic arm and the elastic portions of the second terminals abut against the second surface in the vertical direction.

The electrical connector as claimed in claim 10, further including an insulative shell affixed to a backend of the insulative housing and having a receiving groove to receive the main portion of the printed circuit board, wherein the elastic portions of the first and second terminals extends into the receiving groove to contact the main portion of the printed circuit board.

The electrical connector as claimed in claim 11, wherein said insulative shell forms a plurality of passageways to receive the corresponding first terminals and second terminals, respectively, a plurality of recesses to receive the corresponding first elastic arm and second elastic arm, respectively.

The electrical connector as claimed in claim 12, further including a metallic shell enclosing said insulative shell, wherein said metallic shell forms a plurality of elastic tangs received in corresponding slots of the insulative shell and extending into the receiving groove for engagement with the printed circuit board.

The electrical connector as claimed in claim 10, wherein a position where the first elastic arm abut against the first surface of the printed circuit board is located behind, in the front-to-back direction, another position where the elastic portions of the first terminals abut against the first surface of the printed circuit board

15. An electrical connector comprising:

a printed circuit board having a main portion with opposite first and second surfaces in a vertical direction;

an insulative housing having a base portion and a tongue portion extending forwardly from the base portion in a front-to-back direction perpendicular to said vertical direction;

a row of first terminals and another row of second terminals affixed to the insulative housing, each of said first and second terminals comprising a contact portion exposed to the tongue portion, and an elastic portion extending rearwardly;

a metallic shielding plate affixed to the insulative piece, located between said row of first terminals and said row of second terminals in said vertical direction; and

a metallic shielding shell enclosing the insulative housing for forming a receiving room; and

an insulative shell assembled to a rear side of the housing and defining a receiving groove in which the main portion of the printed circuit board is received and into which the elastic portions of said first terminals and said second terminals extend to abut against the corresponding first and second surfaces, respectively.

16. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 15, wherein said insulative shell includes a plurality of ribs to form corresponding passageways beside the receiving groove to receive the elastic portions of the corresponding first and second terminals.

17. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 15, further includes a metallic shell enclosing the insulative shell, wherein said metallic shell includes a plurality of elastic tangs extending into the receiving groove to abut against the main portion of the printed circuit board.

18. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 17, wherein said insulative shell forms a plurality of slots beside the receiving groove to receive the corresponding elastic tangs, respectively.

19. The electrical connector as claimed in 18, wherein said shielding plate further includes a plurality of elastic arms extending into the receiving groove to respectively abut against the corresponding first and second surfaces of the printed circuit board, respectively.

20. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 19, wherein said insulative shell further includes a plurality of recesses to receive the corresponding elastic arms, respectively.
