Abstract

Tissue-integrating biosensors, systems comprising these sensors and methods of using these sensors and systems for the detection of one or more analytes are provided.

Claims

1. A system, comprising:

an implantable sensor including a sensing moiety configured to react with glucose and produce an optical signal dependent on a glucose concentration; and

a watch configured to detect the optical signal and calculate the glucose concentration.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein:

the watch includes an interrogator configured to illuminate the implantable sensor;

the implantable sensor configured to produce the optical sensor in response to being illuminated by the interrogator.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the sensing moiety includes a fluorescent dye configured to produce the optical signal in response to being illuminated by an excitation signal.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the implantable sensor is implanted in a human body and the watch is disposed over the implant.

5. A system, comprising:

an implantable sensor including a sensing moiety configured to produce an optical signal dependent on a glucose concentration; and

a detector configured to receive the optical signal.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein a watch includes the detector.

7. The system of claim 5, further comprising a data reader, the detector configured to send a signal associated with the optical signal to the data reader.

8. The system of claim 5, further comprising:

a signal reader including the detector; and

a data reader, the signal reader configured to send a signal associated with the optical signal to the data reader.

9. The system of claim 5, further comprising:

a signal reader including the detector; and

a watch, the signal reader configured to send a signal associated with the optical signal to the watch.

10. The system of claim 5, further comprising a data reader, the detector configured to send a signal associated with the optical signal to the data reader, the data reader configured to calculate the concentration of glucose based on the signal received from the detector.

11. An apparatus, comprising:

a detector configured to receive an optical signal from a human body, the optical signal dependent on a glucose concentration;

a clock; and

a data processing component configured determine the concentration of glucose based on the optical signal.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, further comprising:

a watch housing, the detector, the clock, and the data processing component disposed within the watch housing.

13. The apparatus of claim 11, further comprising:

an illuminator configured to emit an excitation into the human body, the optical signal dependent on the glucose concentration emitted from the human body in response to the illuminator emitting the excitation signal.

14. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the optical signal is a fluorescent signal.

15. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the detector is configured to continuously receive the optical signal such that the glucose concentration can be continuously determined by the data processing component.

16. The apparatus of claim 11, further comprising a signal transmitter configured to send a signal representative of the concentration of glucose to a data collection device.
