Abstract

A system for presenting a personalized set of a plurality of applications for a user to utilize in a computing system hosting multiple applications. In the system, backend servers host a home web page served on the user'"'"'s computing device. The home web page includes one or more home groups of the personalized set of the plurality of applications for the user. Each application is represented on the home web page by a user-activable application tile or application link that can be activated to launch the application. The home web page also includes a mechanism for finding one or more of the multiple applications for the user to use.

Claims

1. A system for presenting a personalized set of a plurality of applications for a user to utilize in a computing system hosting multiple applications, the system comprising:

one or more backend servers hosting a home page served on the user'"'"'s computing device, the home page including one or more home groups of the personalized set of the plurality of applications for the user, each application being represented on the home page by a user-activable application tile or application link that can be activated to launch the application; and

a mechanism for finding one or more of the multiple applications for the user to use.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the mechanism includes an app finder application that presents an app finder interface which lists all applications of the multiple applications that are potentially available for the user'"'"'s use.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the app finder application is accessible via an edit mode of the home page.

4. The system of claim 2, wherein the app finder application is represented by a user-activable application tile or application link on the home page.

5. The system of claim 2, wherein the app finder interface shows the applications that are potentially available for the user'"'"'s use as corresponding application tiles that can be user activated to launch the applications from the app finder interface.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein each application tile includes a user-activable user interface element for adding the corresponding application to the one or more home groups of the personalized set of the plurality of applications for the user on the home page.

The system of claim 5, wherein each application tile includes a user-activable user interface element that initiates a dialog for adding the corresponding application to, or removing the corresponding application from, the one or more home groups of the personalized set of the plurality of applications for the user on the home page.

The system of claim 5, wherein the app finder interface shows the applications that are potentially available for the user'"'"'s use as corresponding application tiles in a responsive web page layout in which a size and a placement of the corresponding application tiles self-adjusts to fit the size of a display screen of a client computing device.

9. The system of claim 5, wherein the app finder interface shows the applications that are potentially available for the user'"'"'s use as corresponding application tiles organized in one or more collections including:

catalog groups;

a user menu group; and

a system menu group.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the app finder interface includes a search field and a group selection option to help users to locate specific tiles in the catalog groups.

11. A method for presenting a personalized set of a plurality of applications for a user to utilize in a computing system hosting multiple applications, the method comprising:

hosting a home page served on the user'"'"'s computing device, the home page including one or more home groups of the personalized set of the plurality of applications for the user, each application being represented on the home page by a user-activable application tile or application link that can be activated to launch the application; and

finding one or more of the multiple applications for the user to use.

The method of claim 11, wherein finding one or more of the multiple applications for the user to use includes launching an app finder application that presents an app finder interface that lists all applications of the multiple applications that are potentially available for the user'"'"'s use.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein launching the app finder application includes accessing the app finder application via an edit mode of the home page.

14. The method of claim 12, wherein launching the app finder application includes activating a user-activable application tile or application link on the home page.

15. The method of claim 12, wherein launching the app finder application includes showing the applications that are potentially available for the user'"'"'s use as corresponding application tiles that can be user activated to launch the applications from the app finder interface.

The method of claim 15, wherein showing the applications that are potentially available for the user'"'"'s use as corresponding application tiles includes connecting each corresponding application tile to a user-activable user interface element for adding the corresponding application to the one or more home groups of the personalized set of the plurality of applications for the user on the home page.

The method of claim 15, wherein connecting each corresponding application tile to a user-activable user interface element includes connecting a user-activable user interface element that initiates a dialog for adding the corresponding application to, or removing the corresponding application from, the one or more home groups of the personalized set of the plurality of applications for the user on the home page.

The method of claim 15, wherein showing the applications that are potentially available for the user'"'"'s use as corresponding application tiles includes displaying the corresponding application tiles in a responsive web page layout in which a size and a placement of the corresponding application tiles self-adjusts to fit the size of a display screen of a client computing device.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein showing the applications that are potentially available for the user'"'"'s use as corresponding application tiles includes organizing the corresponding application tiles in one or more collections including:

catalog groups;

a user menu group; and

a system menu group.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein organizing the corresponding application tiles in one or more collections including providing a search field and a group selection option to help users to locate specific tiles in the catalog groups.
