Card Processing Methods and Systems
First Claim
1. A card processing method implemented by a card processing system, comprising:
- receiving a request to approve or reject a transaction using a multicurrency card with multiple account balances in multiple currencies, wherein the transaction is associated with a transaction amount in a transaction currency;
determining, from the multiple account balances, a first account balance in a first currency that is the same as the transaction currency to fund the transaction amount;
in response to determination that the first account balance is not available or insufficient to fund the transaction amount,determining, from the multiple account balances, a second account balance in a second currency that is different to the transaction account to fund the transaction amount;
selecting an exchange rate for dynamic currency conversion of part or all of the second account balance from the second currency to the transaction currency; and
determining whether to approve or reject the transaction based on the dynamic currency conversion using the selected exchange rate.

Abstract
Example card processing methods and systems are described. The card processing system may receive a request to approve or reject a transaction using a multicurrency card with multiple account balances in multiple currencies. The transaction may be associated with a transaction amount in a transaction currency. In response to determination that the first account balance is not available or insufficient to fund the transaction amount, the card processing system may determine, from the multiple account balances, a second account balance in a second currency that is different to the transaction account to fund the transaction amount. An exchange rate may be selected for dynamic currency conversion of part or all of the second account balance from the second currency to the transaction currency; and a determination made as to whether to approve or reject the transaction based on the dynamic currency conversion using the selected exchange rate.

12. A computer system capable of acting as a card processing system, wherein the computer system comprises:
-
a processor; and a non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to; receive a request to approve or reject a transaction using a multicurrency card with multiple account balances in multiple currencies, wherein the transaction is associated with a transaction amount in a transaction currency; determine, from the multiple account balances, a first account balance in a first currency that is the same as the transaction currency to fund the transaction amount; in response to determination that the first account balance is not available or insufficient to fund the transaction amount, determine, from the multiple account balances, a second account balance in a second currency that is different to the transaction account to fund the transaction amount; select an exchange rate for dynamic currency conversion of part or all of the second account balance from the second currency to the transaction currency; and determine whether to approve or reject the transaction based on the dynamic currency conversion using the selected exchange rate. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)

21. A card processing method implemented by a card processing system, comprising:
-
receiving a request to approve or reject a transaction using a multicurrency card with multiple account balances in multiple currencies, wherein the multicurrency card is a debit card or credit card, and the transaction is associated with a transaction amount in a transaction currency; determining, from the multiple account balances, a first account balance in a first currency that is the same as the transaction currency to fund the transaction amount; in response to determination that the first account balance is not available or insufficient to fund the transaction amount, determining, from the multiple account balances, a second account balance in a second currency that is different to the transaction currency to fund the transaction amount; retrieving an exchange rate for currency conversion of part or all of the second account balance from the second currency to the transaction currency, wherein the exchange rate is retrieved from one or more foreign exchange provider systems either in real time or prior to receiving the request; and determining whether to approve or reject the transaction based on the currency conversion using the exchange rate.
