Abstract

A community safety system with inter-organizational communication, allowing for members of a first organization to provide alerts when located within a security zone associated with a second organization. A notification management entity, responsible for managing the different safety systems associated with each organization, determines where a user is located and whether the user is associated with any of the organizations responsible for the security zone in which the user is located.

Claims

1. A method of inter-organizational alert communication, comprising:

a notification management entity receiving an alert from a user through a community safety system application operating on a user device;

identifying, by the notification management entity, a location of the user;

determining, by the notification management entity, one or more organizations associated with the location of the user;

determining, by the notification management entity, if the user is a member of at least one of the one or more organizations associated with the location of the user; and

sending, by the notification management entity, an alert from the user to the one or more determined organizations associated with the location of the user.

2. The method of claim 1, sending the alert comprising:

if the user is determined to be a member of one of the one or more organizations, tagging the alert received from the user with information identifying the user;

the notification management entity broadcasting the tagged alert notification to one or more administrator users of the one of the one or more organizations to which the user is determined to be a member; and

opening a communication channel between the user and the one or more administrator users.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein tagging the alert comprises:

the notification management entity identifying the user; and

locating and retrieving registration data associated with the identified user, the registration data being maintained by the notification management entity.

The method of claim 2, wherein opening a communication channel between the user and the one or more administrator users comprises opening a dedicated communication channel through the notification management entity, the user, and the one or more administrator users capable of sending voice, text, video, and photographs over the communication channel.

5. The method of claim 1, sending the alert comprising:

if the user is determined to not be a member of one of the one or more organizations, tagging the alert received from the user with anonymity information;

the notification management entity broadcasting the tagged alert notification to one or more administrator users of the one of the one or more organizations to which the user is determined to not be a member; and

opening a communication channel between the user and the one or more administrator users.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the anonymity information comprises a non-specific indicator such that the one or more administrator users cannot determine an identity of the user, and location data identifying the location of the user.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein opening a communication channel between the user and the one or more administrator users comprises opening a dedicated communication channel through the notification management entity, the user, and the one or more administrator users capable of sending voice, text, video, and photographs over the communication channel.

8. The method of claim 1, identifying the location of the user comprising the notification management entity retrieving location information from the alert, from a GPS component of the user device, or a combination thereof.

9. The method of claim 1, determining if the user is a member of at least one of the one or more organizations associated with the location of the user comprising comparing the location of the user with one or more security zones associated with each of the one or more organizations.

10. A method, comprising:

a notification management entity receiving a request for a population check from an administrator through a community safety system application operating on a user device;

identifying, by the notification management entity, a plurality of users associated with an organization with which the administrator is associated;

broadcasting, by the notification management entity, a status request to each of the plurality of users through a community safety system application operating on a user device of each of the plurality of users;

receiving, by the notification management entity, a response from at least one of the plurality of users; and

identifying to the administrator the status response of the at least one of the plurality of users.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising retrieving, by the notification management entity, a location of the at least one of the plurality of users who sent a response to the status request, and identifying comprises presenting the location of the at least one of the plurality of users and the status response to the administrator.

12. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

determining, by the notification management entity, whether one or more users are present within a security zone associated with the organization of the administrators, wherein the one or more users are not associated with the organization of the administrator; and

broadcasting, by the notification management entity, the status request to the one or more users present within the security zone who are not associated with the organization of the administrator.
