Abstract

A method, apparatus and computer readable medium are provided for facilitating encoding of media content. In the context of a method, information is included in a manifest of available media content. The method also indicates in the manifest one of the following: a viewport or a spatial region. The method further indicates in the manifest at least one value indicative of a respective quality of the viewport or the spatial region.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

including in a manifest information of an available media content;

indicating in the manifest one of the following;

a viewport or a spatial region, wherein the viewport is a part of a 360-degree video; and

indicating in the manifest at least one value indicative of a respective quality of the viewport or the spatial region.

2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising indicating the viewport with two angles on a spherical coordinate system, a horizontal field of view, and a vertical field of view.

3. The method according to claim 1, further comprising indicating the spatial region with a position, a width, and a height.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein at least one value indicative of the respective quality of the viewport or the spatial region is a quality ranking indicating an order of picture or video quality.

The method according to claim 1, further comprising signaling the indication of the viewport or the spatial region and the at least one value indicative of the respective quality of the viewport or the spatial region in one or both of a video bitstream and a container file encapsulating the video bitstream.

6. The method according to claim 5, wherein the indication of the viewport or the spatial region and the at least one value indicative of the respective quality of the viewport or the spatial region are included in a SEI (Supplemental Enhancement Information) message of the video bitstream.

The method according to claim 5, wherein the indication of the viewport or the spatial region and the at least one value indicative of the respective quality of the viewport or the spatial region are included in a container file conforming to ISO base media file format (ISOBMFF) within one or more of the following structures:

a box in a sample entry of a track encapsulating the video bitstream;

a box in a restricted video sample entry of a track encapsulating the video bitstream;

a sample group or a timed metadata track.

8. A method comprising parsing from a manifest information of an available media content, the method comprising:

parsing from the manifest one of the following;

a viewport or a spatial region, wherein the viewport is a part of a 360-degree video;

parsing from the manifest at least one value indicative of the respective quality of the viewport or the spatial region;

determining that the viewport or the spatial region is suitable for displaying; and

selecting from the manifest a representation based on the at least one value indicative of the respective quality of the viewport or the spatial region.

9. The method according to claim 8, further comprising indicating the viewport with two angles on a spherical coordinate system, a horizontal field of view, and a vertical field of view.

10. The method according to claim 8, further comprising indicating the spatial region with a position, a width, and a height.

11. The method according to claim 8, wherein at least one value indicative of the respective quality of the viewport or the spatial region is a quality ranking indicating an order of picture or video quality.

12. The method according to claim 8, further comprising:

parsing from a manifest information of a first representation and a second representation;

parsing from the manifest a viewport or a spatial region for the first representation;

parsing from the manifest a viewport or a spatial region for the second representation;

parsing from the manifest a first value indicative of the quality of the viewport or the spatial region in the first representation and a second value indicative of the quality of the viewport or the spatial region in the second representation; and

selecting either the first representation or the second representation based on the first value and the second value.

13. The method according to claim 8, further comprising:

parsing from a manifest information of a first representation and a second representation;

parsing from the manifest first information concerning one of the following;

a first viewport for the first representation or a first spatial region for the first representation;

parsing from the manifest second information concerning one of the following;

a second viewport for the second representation or a second spatial region for the second representation;

determining based on the first information and the second information, which one of the following;

a first viewport, a first spatial region, a second viewport, a second spatial region is suitable for displaying; and

selecting the corresponding representation based on the determination.

14. An apparatus comprising at least one processor and at least one memory, said at least one memory stored with code thereon, which when executed by said at least one processor, causes the apparatus to:

include in a manifest information of an available media content;

indicate in the manifest one of the following;

a viewport or a spatial region, wherein the viewport is a part of a 360-degree video; and

indicate in the manifest at least one value indicative of a respective quality of the viewport or the spatial region.

15. The apparatus according to claim 14, wherein the viewport is indicated with two angles on a spherical coordinate system, a horizontal field of view, and a vertical field of view.

16. The apparatus according to claim 14, wherein the spatial region is indicated with a position, a width, and a height.

17. The apparatus according to claim 14, wherein the at least one value indicative of the respective quality of the viewport or the spatial region is a quality ranking indicating an order of picture or video quality.

The apparatus according to claim 14, further being caused to signal the indication of the viewport or the spatial region and the at least one value indicative of the respective quality of the viewport or the spatial region in one or both of a video bitstream and a container file encapsulating the video bitstream.

19. The apparatus according to claim 18, wherein the indication of the viewport or the spatial region and the at least one value indicative of the respective quality of the viewport or the spatial region are included in a SEI (Supplemental Enhancement Information) message of the video bitstream.

20. The apparatus according to claim 18, wherein the indication of the viewport or the the spatial region and the at least one value indicative of the respective quality of the viewport or the spatial region are included in a container file conforming to ISO base media file format (ISOBMFF) within one or more of the following structures:

a box in a sample entry of a track encapsulating the video bitstream;

a box in a restricted video sample entry of a track encapsulating the video bitstream;

a sample group;

a timed metadata track.
