1. A balloon catheter used in endovascular procedures comprising:
- a balloon in fluid communication with an inflation lumen, whereby the balloon is inflated as an inflation liquid is delivered through the inflation lumen;
a purge port in fluid communication with the balloon, the purge port comprising a membrane having pores sized to allow passage of gas while restricting passage of the inflation liquid in order to purge gas from the balloon while retaining the inflation liquid within the balloon so that the balloon maintains an inflated shape after the balloon is inflated.

8. A balloon catheter used in endovascular procedures comprising:
-
a balloon; an outer tubular assembly, a proximal part of the balloon affixed to the outer tubular assembly, the outer tubular assembly including an inflation lumen through which an inflation fluid is delivered to the balloon; and an inner tubular assembly, a distal part of the balloon affixed to the inner tubular assembly, the inner tubular assembly including; a membrane in fluid communication with the balloon, where the membrane allows passage of gas but restricts passage of liquid in order to purge gas from the balloon while retaining the inflation liquid within the balloon in order for the balloon to maintain an inflated shape after the balloon is inflated; and a channel in fluid communication with the membrane through which gas expelled from the balloon passes out from the balloon catheter. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13)

14. A balloon catheter system comprising:
a syringe comprising; an inflation liquid; a syringe plunger; a metered controller that actuates the syringe plunger to expel a metered dose of the inflation liquid from the syringe; and a catheter comprising; an inflation lumen that conveys the inflation liquid expelled from the syringe; a balloon in fluid communication with the inflation lumen that inflates as the inflation liquid is delivered through the inflation lumen and deflates as the inflation liquid is withdrawn through the inflation lumen; and a purge port comprising a membrane that selectively allows passage of gas and restricts passage of the inflation liquid in order to purge gas from the balloon while retaining the inflation liquid within the balloon and to maintain an inflated shape of the balloon after the balloon is inflated. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
