Abstract

A module for a paving or building system includes at least one block of concrete and a sheet, e.g., sheet metal, having a surface area abutting the block or blocks. The sheet includes multiple openings and one or more flaps of material from one or more from the openings may be bent or otherwise shaped to extend into a concrete block and anchor the sheet to the concrete block.

Claims

1. A module comprising:

a first block of concrete;

a sheet having a first surface area abutting the first block, the sheet including a plurality of openings; and

a second block of concrete, the concrete of the second block being continuous with the concrete of second block through the openings in the sheet and around a perimeter of the sheet.

2. The module of claim 1, wherein the second block is thinner than the first block.

3. The module of claim 2, wherein:

the concrete in the first block comprises aggregate; and

the concrete in the second block comprises cured slurry that flowed through the openings or around the sheet.

4. The module of claim 1, wherein the sheet comprises sheet metal that is continuous except where the openings extend through the sheet metal.

5. The module of claim 1, wherein the first block comprises reinforcing structure embedded in the first block.

6. The module of claim 5, wherein the second block comprises reinforcing structure embedded in the second block.

7. The module of claim 1, wherein the sheet further comprises first flaps of material from one or more of the openings in the sheet, the first flaps extending into the first block and anchoring the sheet to the first block.

8. The module of claim 7, wherein the sheet further comprises second flaps of material from one or more of the openings in the sheet, the second flaps extending into the second block and anchoring the sheet to the first block.

9. The module of claim 1, wherein the first and second blocks encase the sheet.

10. A module comprising:

a first block of concrete; and

a sheet having a first surface area abutting the first block, the sheet including;

a plurality of openings; and

first flaps of material from one or more of the openings, the first flaps extending into the first block and anchoring the sheet to the first block.

11. The module of claim 10, further comprising a second block of concrete abutting the sheet on a second surface that is on an opposite side of the sheet from the first surface of the sheet, the concrete of the first and second blocks being continuously joined through the openings in the sheet.

12. The module of claim 11, wherein the sheet further includes second flaps of the material of the sheet from one or more of the openings, the second flaps extending into the second block and anchoring the sheet to the second block.

13. The module of claim 11, wherein the second block is thinner than the first block.

14. The module of claim 10, wherein the sheet is sheet metal.

15. The module of claim 10, wherein the openings in the sheet are punched openings that leave the first flaps of material attached to the sheet and bent to extend into the first block.

16. The module of claim 10, further comprising a coupling feature directly attached to the sheet.

17. The module of claim 16, wherein the coupling feature comprises a projection extending beyond a first side of the first block.

18. The module of claim 17, further comprising an indentation on a second side of the module opposite from the first side, the indentation having a shape that is complementary to a shape of the projection.

19. The module of claim 16, wherein the coupling feature comprises a post internal to the first block, and a cavity in the first block and exposes the coupling feature to external access for connecting the module to a separate structure.

20. The module of claim 10, further comprising reinforcing structure in the first block.
