Abstract

The present invention includes a healthcare system for capturing and maintaining patient healthcare records and employing information in the records to proactively alert hospital workers to a condition that places patient health at risk.

Claims

1. A notification system comprising:

a patient support having at least one sensor to sense a physiological condition of a patient supported thereon or a condition or configuration of the patient support;

a patient support monitoring system having a default setting for said physiological condition or patient support condition or configuration; and

said patient support monitoring system in communication with said sensor and operable to generate a notification when said sensor detects when a sensed condition or configuration deviates from said default setting, and said notification including generation of documentation for storage.

2. The notification system according to claim 1, wherein the patient support monitoring system is configured to automatically select or determine said notification level.

3. The notification system according to claim 1, wherein said patient support monitoring system is configured to generate multiple notification levels.

4. The notification system according to claim 3, wherein said multiple notification levels include a high priority notification level, a medium priority notification level, and a low priority notification level.

5. The notification system according to claim 1, wherein the patient support monitoring system comprises a network interface, and the network interface operable to communicate with a hospital network or healthcare system.

6. The notification system according to claim 5, wherein said network interface is operable to send information from said sensor to the hospital network or healthcare system.

7. The notification system according to claim 1, wherein the patient support monitoring system is configured to automatically select or determine said default setting.

8. The notification system according to claim 7, wherein said patient support monitoring system is configured to automatically select or determine said default setting based on input from a caregiver.

9. The notification system according to claim 1, wherein said patient support monitoring system is configured to allow remote selection or remote input of said default setting in said patient support monitoring system.

10. A notification system comprising:

a patient support having at least one sensor to sense a physiological condition of a patient supported thereon;

a monitoring system having a default setting for said physiological condition; and

said monitoring system in communication with said sensor and operable to generate a notification when said sensor detects when a sensed condition deviates from said default setting, and said notification including generation of an alert to a caregiver.

11. The notification system according to claim 10, wherein said default setting is entered into said monitoring system by a caregiver.

12. The notification system according to claim 10, wherein said monitoring system is configured to automatically select or determine said default setting based on input from a caregiver.

13. The notification system according to claim 10, wherein said monitoring system is configured to allow remote selection or remote input of said default setting in said monitoring system.

14. The notification system according to claim 10, wherein said notification includes generation of documentation for storage.

15. The notification system according to claim 10, wherein said notification includes mobile alerts or pop-up displays.

16. The notification system according to claim 10, wherein said physiological condition includes a condition selected from the group consisting of heart rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate.

17. The notification system according to claim 10, wherein said at least one sensor comprises a plurality of sensors, and said patient support further including a patient support control operable to receive/capture information from each of the sensors.

18. The notification system according to claim 17, further comprising a network interface, and said network interface operable to communicate said alert to a hospital network or healthcare system.

19. The notification system according to claim 18, wherein said patient support control is in communication with the hospital network or healthcare system via said network interface and is operable to transmit said information received from said sensors to the hospital network or healthcare system via said network interface.

20. The notification system according to claim 19, wherein said patient support control processes said information received from the sensors prior to transmitting said information to the hospital network or healthcare system.
