Abstract

Methods and apparatuses are provided for controlling power in a communication system. It is identified whether there is uplink transmission from a first UE. Sidelink transmission is transmitted from the first UE to a second UE based on a transmission power, if there is no uplink transmission from the first UE.

Claims

1. A method of controlling power in a communication system, the method comprising:

identifying whether there is uplink transmission from a first user equipment (UE); and

transmitting, from the first UE to a second UE, sidelink transmission based on a transmission power, if there is no uplink transmission from the first UE.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the sidelink transmission comprises transmission of at least one of a discovery signal, control information, and data information.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the transmission power is a smaller one among a first transmission power and a second transmission power.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving, by the first UE, power control-related information from a base station,

wherein the first transmission power is determined based on a number of assigned resource blocks, a path loss, and the received power control-related information

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the second transmission power is a maximum available transmission power for the sidelink transmission.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the path loss is determined for a serving cell based on information provided by signaling from the base station.

7. A first user equipment (UE) in a communication system, comprising:

a transceiver configured to transmit and receive signals; and

a controller configured to;

identify whether there is uplink transmission from the first UE, and

control the transceiver to transmit, from the first UE to a second UE, sidelink transmission based on a transmission power if there is no uplink transmission from the first UE.

8. The first UE of claim 7, wherein the sidelink transmission comprises transmission of at least one of a discovery signal, control information, and data information.

9. The first UE of claim 7, wherein the transmission power is a smaller one among a first transmission power and a second transmission power.

10. The first UE of claim 7, wherein the controller is further configured to control the transceiver to receive power control-related information from a base station, and

wherein the first transmission power is determined based on a number of assigned resource blocks, a path loss, and the received power control-related information

11. The first UE of claim 7, wherein the second transmission power is a maximum available transmission power for the sidelink transmission.

12. The first UE of claim 7, wherein the path loss is determined for a serving cell based on information provided by signaling from the base station.
