Abstract

A head-up display projects an image on a transparent reflective member to allow an observer to visually recognize a virtual image. The head-up display includes a display device and a projection optical system. The projection optical system includes a refractive optical system and a concave mirror. The display device displays the image. The projection optical system projects the image displayed on the display device to a visual point of an observer. The refractive optical system includes at least one optical element. The concave mirror has a concave reflection surface. The refractive optical system is positioned on an optical path between the display device and the concave mirror. In the refractive optical system, an incident surface of a lens element having negative power into which light of the image displayed on the display device is incident is concave.

Claims

1. A head-up display that projects an image on a transparent reflective member and allows an observer to visually recognize a virtual image, the head-up display comprising:

a display device that displays the image; and

a projection optical system that projects the image displayed on the display device to a viewpoint of the observer,

wherein the projection optical system includes

a refractive optical system that includes at least one optical element, and

a concave mirror having a concave reflection surface,

the refractive optical system is positioned on an optical path between the display device and the concave mirror,

the refractive optical system includes a lens element having negative power as a whole,

the lens element having negative power has an incident surface into which light of the image displayed on the display device is incident,

the incident surface has a concave surface, and

a following condition (1) is satisfied;

where

H represents a length of the image displayed on the display device in a direction corresponding to a horizontal direction of the virtual image that is visually recognized by the observer, and

L represents an optical path length from the display device to the incident surface of the lens element having negative power in the refractive optical system.

2. The head-up display according to claim 1, wherein the lens element having negative power is disposed adjacent to the display device.

3. The head-up display according to claim 1, wherein the lens element having negative power has a meniscus shape.

4. The head-up display according to claim 1, wherein the refractive optical system refracts the image stronger in a long-side direction than in a short-side direction when the image is transmitted.

5. The head-up display according to claim 1, wherein a following condition (2) is satisfied:

where

M represents an optical path length of a reference beam from an emitting surface of the refractive optical system to a mirror disposed next to the refractive optical system on the optical path.

6. The head-up display according to claim 1, wherein the refractive optical system is disposed to be higher than a lower end of a reflection region of the concave mirror.

7. The head-up display according to claim 1, wherein

the projection optical system further includes a second mirror on an optical path from the refractive optical system to the concave mirror, and

an optical path length from the display device to the refractive optical system is shorter than an optical path length from the second mirror to the concave mirror.

8. A mobile body comprising:

a main body having the reflective member;

a drive unit that moves the main body; and

the head-up display according to claim 1 mounted on the main body.
