Abstract

Methods and apparatus for multiple user uplink are provided. In one aspect, a method for wireless communication includes receiving, via a first device, a first wireless message granting permission for the first device to transmit a message during a transmission opportunity, the first wireless message being transmitted to the first device at least partially concurrently with a transmission of at least a portion of a second wireless message addressed to a second device, the first wireless message being received over a first spatial stream and the second wireless message being transmitted over a second spatial stream; and transmitting, via the first device, a third message to a third device during the transmission opportunity at least partially concurrently with a transmission of a fourth message by the second device to the third device.

Claims

1. A method of wireless communication, comprising:

receiving, via a first device, a first wireless message granting permission for the first device to transmit a message during a transmission opportunity, the first wireless message being transmitted to the first device at least partially concurrently with a transmission of at least a portion of a second wireless message addressed to a second device, the first wireless message being received over a first spatial stream and the second wireless message being transmitted over a second spatial stream; and

transmitting, via the first device, a third message to a third device during the transmission opportunity at least partially concurrently with a transmission of a fourth message by the second device to the third device.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving, via the first device, a fifth message; and

decoding the fifth message to determine whether the first device should initiate transmission during the transmission opportunity at a particular time, wherein the transmission of the third message is initiated at the particular time based on the fifth message.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the fifth message is a trigger frame.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the trigger frame comprise a field which indicates the particular time for transmitting the third message.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the trigger frame indicates transmission of the third message is a predetermined period of time after transmission of the trigger frame until the particular time.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the predetermined period of time is SIFS.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein the predetermined period of time is PIFS.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the first message comprises one or more one or more of a data frame, a control frame, and a management frame.

9. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a first message granting permission for a first device to transmit a message during a transmission opportunity, the first message being transmitted to the first device at least partially concurrently with a transmission of at least a portion of a second message addressed to a second device, the receiver being further configured to receive the first wireless message over a first spatial stream while the transmission of the second wireless message is over a second spatial stream; and

a transmitter configured to transmit, via the first device, a third message to a third device during the transmission opportunity at least partially concurrently with a transmission of a fourth message by the second device to the third device.

10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the receiver is further configured to receive a fifth message;

and the processor is further configured to decode the fifth message to determine whether the first device should initiate transmission during the transmission opportunity at a particular time, wherein the transmitter is further configured to initiate the transmission of the third message at the particular time based on the fifth message.

11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the fifth message is a trigger frame.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the trigger frame comprise a field which indicates the particular time for transmitting the third message.

13. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the trigger frame indicates transmission of the third message is a predetermined period of time after transmission of the trigger frame until the particular time.

14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the predetermined period of time is SIFS.

15. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the predetermined period of time is PIFS.

16. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the first message comprises one or more of a data frame, a control frame, and a management frame.

17. A method of wireless communication, comprising:

receiving, via a first device, a first wireless message granting permission for the first device to transmit a message during a transmission opportunity, the first wireless message being transmitted to the first device at least partially concurrently with a transmission of at least a portion of a second wireless message addressed to a second device, wherein the first wireless message is received over a first frequency and the second wireless message is transmitted over a second frequency; and

transmitting, via the first device, a third message to a third device during the transmission opportunity at least partially concurrently with a transmission of a fourth message by the second device to the third device.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

receiving, via the first device, a fifth message; and

decoding the fifth message to determine whether the first device should initiate transmission during the transmission opportunity at a particular time, wherein the transmission of the third message is initiated at the particular time based on the fifth message.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the fifth message is a trigger frame.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the trigger frame comprise a field which indicates the particular time for transmitting the third message.

21. The method of claim 19, wherein the trigger frame indicates transmission of the third message is a predetermined period of time after transmission of the trigger frame until the particular time.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the predetermined period of time is SIFS.

23. The method of claim 21, wherein the predetermined period of time is PIFS.

24. The method of claim 17, wherein the first message comprises one or more of a data frame, a control frame, and a management frame.

25. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a first message granting permission for a first device to transmit a message during a transmission opportunity, the first message transmitted to the first device at least partially concurrently with a transmission of at least a portion of a second message addressed to a second device, the receiver being further configured to transmit the first wireless message over a first frequency while the second wireless message is transmitted over a second frequency; and

a transmitter configured to transmit, via the first device, a third message to a third device during the transmission opportunity at least partially concurrently with a transmission of a fourth message by the second device to the third device.

26. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the receiver is further configured to receive a fifth message;

and the processor is further configured to decode the fifth message to determine whether the first device should initiate transmission during the transmission opportunity at a particular time, wherein the transmitter is further configured to initiate the transmission of the third message at the particular time based on the fifth message.

27. The apparatus of claim 26, wherein the fifth message is a trigger frame.

28. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the trigger frame comprise a field which indicates the particular time for transmitting the third message.

29. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the trigger frame indicates transmission of the third message is a predetermined period of time after transmission of the trigger frame until the particular time.

30. The apparatus of claim 29, wherein the predetermined period of time is SIFS.

31. The apparatus of claim 29, wherein the predetermined period of time is PIFS.

32. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the first message comprises one or more of a data frame, a control frame, and a management frame.
