Abstract

There is provided a method and corresponding arrangement and units for radar detection in a wireless communication system operating in a spectrum shared with at least one radar system. The method basically comprises the steps of collecting (S1) measurement information related to radar sensing measurements by aggregating radar sensing measurements from multiple, geographically distributed radar sensing units forming a radar sensing network implemented in the wireless communication system, and processing (S2) the measurement information according to at least one radar sensing rule to generate a radar detection result. With this new and fundamental radar detection procedure in place, it may further be beneficial to take action(s) for radar protection and/or dynamic adjustment of radar detection functionalities.

61. A method for radar detection in a wireless communication system operating in a spectrum shared with at least one radar system, wherein the method comprises:

collecting measurement information related to radar sensing measurements by aggregating radar sensing measurements from multiple, geographically distributed radar sensing units forming a radar sensing network implemented in the wireless communication system;

processing the measurement information according to at least one radar sensing rule to generate a radar detection result; and

taking one or more actions for radar protection and/or dynamic adjustment of radar detection functionalities, wherein taking the one or more actions comprises adapting the radar sensing measurements and/or the aggregation of the radar sensing measurements, and/or adapting the processing of the measurement information related to the aggregated radar sensing measurements.

The method of claim 61, wherein taking the one or more actions comprises adapting and/or configuring the at least one radar sensing rule and/or associated parameters, based on the radar detection result, including adapting and/or configuring measurement rates, sensing thresholds and/or a desired accuracy.

63. The method of claim 61, wherein the adapting is performed based on the deployment, configuration and/or operation of the wireless communication system, and/or based on the collected measurement information and/or the radar detection result.

64. The method of claim 61, wherein the method further comprises determining when and/or where the radar sensing measurements are to be performed.

65. The method of claim 64, wherein determining when and/or where radar sensing measurements are to be performed comprises determining from which radar sensing units of the radar sensing network to collect radar sensing measurements.

66. An arrangement configured for radar detection in a wireless communication system operating in a spectrum shared with at least one radar system, wherein the arrangement is configured to:

collect measurement information related to radar sensing measurements by aggregating radar sensing measurements from multiple, geographically distributed radar sensing units forming a radar sensing network implemented in the wireless communication system;

process the measurement information according to at least one radar sensing rule to generate a radar detection result; and

adapt operation of the wireless communication system and/or the radar sensing network based on the collected measurement information and/or the radar detection results and/or information related to deployment and configuration of the wireless communication system.

67. The arrangement of claim 66, wherein the radar sensing units are implemented in communication units of the wireless communication system.

68. The arrangement of claim 67, wherein the communication units include network nodes and/or user equipments.

69. The arrangement of claim 66, wherein the radar sensing network is introduced in a wireless communication network and deployed as additional functionalities in communication network equipment and utilizing communication and control capabilities of the wireless communication network.

70. The arrangement of claim 66, wherein the arrangement is further configured to employ Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) and/or Transmit Power Control (TPC) to minimize the wireless communication system'"'"'s influence on radar signals.

71. A radar detection unit configured for radar detection in a wireless communication system operating in a spectrum shared with at least one radar system, wherein the radar detection unit is part of a radar sensing network implemented in the wireless communication system and comprises:

radar sensing circuitry configured for sensing radar signals;

communication circuitry configured for communicating with other radar detection units; and

processing circuitry operatively associated with the radar sensing circuitry and the communication circuitry and configured to;

collect measurement information related to radar sensing measurements;

process the measurement information according to at least one radar sensing rule to generate a radar detection result;

receive radar sensing measurement results from at least one other radar detection unit in the radar sensing network; and

aggregate and process the received radar sensing measurement results together with radar sensing measurement results of the radar detection unit to generate the radar detection result.

72. The radar detection unit of claim 71, wherein the processing circuitry is configured to distribute the radar sensing measurement results of the radar detection unit to at least one other radar detection unit for processing.

73. The radar detection unit of claim 71, wherein the processing circuitry is configured to adapt and/or configure radio resource management in the wireless communication system, based on the radar detection result.

74. The radar detection unit of claim 71, wherein the processing circuitry is configured to adapt and/or configure transmitter characteristics of at least one communication unit in the wireless communication system, based on the radar detection result.

75. The radar detection unit of claim 71, wherein the processing circuitry is configured to adapt and/or configure at least one radar sensing rule and/or associated parameters, based on the radar detection result.

A non-transitory computer readable medium storing a computer program for performing radar detection in a wireless communication system operating in a spectrum shared with at least one radar system, wherein the computer program comprises instructions, which when executed by at least one processor of a radar detection unit, cause the radar detection unit to:

collect measurement information related to radar sensing measurements by aggregating radar sensing measurements from multiple, geographically distributed radar sensing units forming a radar sensing network implemented in the wireless communication system; and

process the measurement information according to at least one radar sensing rule to generate a radar detection result.

77. The computer program of claim 76, wherein the computer program also comprises instructions, which when executed, cause the at least one processor to adapt and/or configure radio resource management in the wireless communication system based on the radar detection result.

78. An apparatus for radar detection in a wireless communication system operating in a spectrum shared with at least one radar system, wherein the apparatus comprises:

a collecting module for collecting measurement information related to radar sensing measurements by aggregating radar sensing measurements from multiple, geographically distributed radar sensing units forming a radar sensing network implemented in the wireless communication system; and

a processing module for processing the measurement information according to at least one radar sensing rule to generate a radar detection result.

79. The apparatus of claim 78, wherein the processing module is also adapted for controlling radio resource management in the wireless communication system based on the radar detection result.
