Abstract

Apparatuses, methods and storage associated with data transfer using beamed power are disclosed herein. In embodiments, an electronic device may include a power beam receiver to harvest power from a beam received from a compute device. The electronic device may include may include one or more processors, devices, and/or circuitry to utilize the harvested power to facilitate at least one of receipt of data from said compute device or transmission of data to said compute device.

Claims

1. An electronic device, comprising:

a power beam receiver to harvest power from a beam received from a compute device; and

circuitry to utilize the harvested power to facilitate at least one of receipt of data from said compute device or transmission of data to said compute device.

2. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the power beam receiver includes at least one of an antenna to harvest energy or a photovoltaic cell.

3. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the circuitry comprises a transceiver with support for a point to point data communication protocol.

4. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the beam includes a power beam and a signal beam, and wherein the power beam receiver includes a photovoltaic cell having an opening and an IR (infrared) sensor located in the opening, the IR sensor to receive the signal beam.

5. The electronic device of claim 4, further comprising a filter to cover the opening, the filter to block a first wavelength associated with the power beam and to pass a second wavelength associated with the signal beam.

6. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the power comprises RF (radio frequency) power.

7. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the power beam comprises a directional beam based on at least one of laser, IR, RF, or millimeter wave.

8. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the power beam receiver comprises a single frequency photovoltaic cell.

9. The electronic device of claim 1, further comprising a processor to recognize a key in the beam and to authenticate the compute device using the key prior to utilization of a transceiver of the circuitry to transmit data to the compute device.

10. The electronic device of claim 9, wherein the electronic device is an Internet-of-Thing (IoT) device.

11. An apparatus, comprising:

circuitry to extract power from a power source;

one or more transmitters coupled to the circuitry to transmit a signal beam to transfer data to an electronic device and a power beam to deliver a portion of the power to the electronic device for facilitation of at least one of the data transfer to the electronic device or a data transfer from the electronic device.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the circuitry includes an interface to dock with a portable, mobile compute device to draw the power from the portable, mobile compute device.

13. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein information represented by the signal beam includes a key usable for authentication.

14. The apparatus of claim 11, further comprising a wireless receiver to receive data from the electronic device by a point to point data communication protocol.

15. The apparatus of claim 11, the one or more transmitters to simultaneously transmit the power beam and the signal beam.

16. A method of securely obtaining sensor data from a sensor device, the method comprising:

requesting, by a compute device, a connection to the sensor device by sending to the sensor device a signal beam representing a key and a power beam to facilitate establishment of a secure connection with the sensor device according to a point to point data communication protocol; and

receiving, by the compute device, the sensor data over the secure connection.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the compute device is a portable, mobile device or an accessory thereof.

18. The method of claim 16, further comprising:

determining, by the compute device, a position of the sensor device relative to the compute device; and

generating, by the compute device, at least one of the power beam or the signal beam based on the determined position.

19. The method of claim 16, further comprising:

determining, by the compute device, a position of the sensor device relative to the compute device; and

causing, by the compute device, a display coupled to the compute device to instruct a user on orientation of the compute device for power delivery.

20. The method of claim 16, further comprising displaying, by the compute device, the sensor data using a display coupled to the compute device.

21. A system, comprising:

a processor to combine first data with second data of a low power data logger; and

one or more transmitters to transmit, to the lower power data logger, a signal beam and a power beam to deliver power to the low power data logger to facilitate extraction of the second data from the low power data logger.

22. The system of claim 21, wherein the first data is generated by another data logger or by said low power data logger prior to a time of generation of the second data.

23. The system of claim 21, wherein the first data is generated by the processor or a component of a same compute device as the processor.

24. The system of claim 21, wherein the one or more transmitters comprise an accessory to a compute device in which the processor operates.

25. The system of claim 21, wherein the one or more transmitters comprise a dual beam transmitter is integrated into a compute device in which the processor operates.
