Abstract

A system and method providing for communication and resolution of utility functions between participants, wherein the utility function is evaluated based on local information at the recipient to determine a cost value thereof. A user interface having express representation of both information elements, and associated reliability of the information. An automated system for optimally conveying information based on relevance and reliability.

Claims

1. A method of filtering records, each record being associated with a record identifier, a primary criterion and a secondary criterion, wherein the primary criterion comprises a magnitude associated with the respective record, and the secondary criterion comprises a description of a statistical distribution associated with the respective record, the method comprising:

receiving information defining a plurality of records, each record having the respective record identifier, the respective primary criterion and the respective secondary criterion;

processing the respective primary criterion in conjunction with the respective secondary criterion for each record, to produce a composite criterion;

selectively outputting at least one record identifier for at least one respective record, selectively dependent on the composite criterion and at least one output rule.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the at least one record identifier comprises a plurality of record identifiers, ranked according to at least the composite criterion.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the processing is dependent on a context of use, such that the composite criterion is context-dependent.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the processing is dependent on a user characteristic, such that the composite criterion is subjective.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the primary criterion comprises an integrated area under a curve associated with the respective record.

6. The method according to claim 1, wherein the primary criterion comprises a relevance of the respective record.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the secondary criterion comprises a risk associated with the respective record.

8. The method according to claim 1, wherein the secondary ranking criterion comprises a reliability associated with the respective record.

9. The method according to claim 1, wherein the primary criterion comprises a relevance of the respective record to a user, and the secondary criterion comprises at least one of a risk and a reliability associated with the respective record.

10. The method according to claim 1, wherein the secondary criterion comprises a risk associated with the respective record, further comprising determining a risk tolerance of a user;

and weighting the primary criterion according to the determined risk tolerance to produce the composite criterion.

11. The method according to claim 1, wherein the statistical distribution associated with at least one respective record is multimodal.

12. The method according to claim 1, wherein the primary criterion and the secondary criterion are independent of each other.

13. The method according to claim 1, wherein the primary criterion comprises an event probability associated with the respective record, and the secondary criterion comprises a risk tolerance of a user;

further comprising weighting the primary criterion according to the determined risk tolerance to produce the composite criterion.

The method according to claim 1, wherein the primary criterion comprises a relevance of the respective record, and the secondary criterion comprises reliability of a determination of the relevance of the respective record, and said composite criterion comprises a composite of the relevance and the reliability, said selectively outputting comprises limiting outputting of the at least one record identifier according to a dynamically-determined threshold applied to the composite criterion.

15. The method according to claim 1, wherein the description of a statistical distribution comprises a description of a non-normal statistical distribution.

16. The method according to claim 1, wherein said selectively outputting comprises performing a hierarchal analysis.

17. A communication system, comprising:

an antenna array configured to operate as an electronically steerable antenna, which permits concurrent spatial reuse of communications bands;

an IEEE-802.11 standard compliant radio, configured to communicate through the antenna array; and

a controller, configured to define an optimal spatial transfer function for communication through the antenna array, responsive to at least multipath interference.

18. The communication system according to claim 17, wherein the controller is configured to define the optimal spatial transfer function for communication through the antenna array to communicate with plurality of other antenna systems at the same time, on the same communication channel, while minimizing mutual interference.

19. The communication system according to claim 17, wherein the controller is configured to operate according to a mesh network protocol.

20. A method of processing data, comprising:

receiving information through a data communication network, comprising a dataset representing data values over at least one of time and space comprising a noise component;

transforming the dataset according to at least a wavelet transform, to increase a sparsity of representation of the dataset;

filtering the transformed dataset to reduce the noise component and segregate peaks of the transformed dataset; and

analyzing the filtered transformed dataset according to extract information from the dataset.
