Abstract

An electric power supply system includes an electric power reception apparatus and an electric power supply apparatus adapted to supply electric power to the electric power reception apparatus when the electric power reception apparatus is placed on the electric power supply apparatus. The electric power supply apparatus includes a plurality of electric power supply units adapted to supply electric power by electromagnetic induction to the electric power reception apparatus. A selection unit of the electric power supply apparatus selects, from the total plurality of electric power supply units, a plurality of electric power supply units whose location corresponds to a position where the electric power reception apparatus is placed, and a control unit controls the supply of electric power such that electric power is supplied to the electric power reception apparatus from the selected plurality of electric power supply units.

Claims

1. An electric power supply device, comprising:

at least one electric power supply section configured to supply electric power to at least one electric power reception device wirelessly;

a communication section configured to transmit or receive control information for controlling the supply of the electric power; and

a control section configured to control the supply of the electric power according to the control information.

2. The electric power supply device according to claim 1, wherein, the control section transmits and receives information to or from the electric power reception device via the communication section to authenticate the electric power reception device.

3. The electric power supply device according to claim 1, further comprising:

a selection section selects the at least one electric power supply section whose location corresponds to a position where the electric power reception device is placed.

The electric power supply device according to claim 3, wherein if the communication section receives information from the electric power reception device, the selection section selects the electric power supply section, which was generating the magnetic field at the point of time at which the communication section received the information, as the electric power supply section at the location corresponding to the location where the electric power reception device is placed.

5. The electric power supply device according to claim 4, wherein the control information is wirelessly transmitted from the electric power reception device such that the electric power is supplied to the electric power reception device from the selected plurality of electric power supply section.

6. The electric power supply device according to claim 1, further comprising:

a detection section detects an overcurrent that flows through the at least one electric power supply section, wherein if an overcurrent is detected by the detection section before the communication section receives information indicating that electric power has been supplied, the selection section does not select the at least one electric power supply section through which the detected overcurrent is flowing.

7. The electric power supply device according to claim 1, wherein the at least one electric power supply section includes a coil.

8. The electric power supply device according to claim 7, wherein the at least one coil is further configured to generate a magnetic field.

9. An electric power reception device, comprising:

at least one electric power reception section configured to receive electric power supplied by an electric power supply device;

a communication section configured to transmit or receive information for controlling the supply of the electric power; and

a control section configured to periodically transmit the information when the electric power is supplied from the electric power supply device.

10. The electric power reception device according to claim 9, wherein, the control section transmits and receives information to or from the electric power supply device via the communication section to authenticate the electric power reception device.

11. The electric power reception device according to claim 9, wherein the at least one electric power supply section includes a coil.

12. The electric power reception device according to claim 11, wherein the at least one coil is further configured to generate a magnetic field.
