Abstract

Methods and systems are disclosed for managing a premises. The premises may comprise a gateway device. The gateway device may detect a security system located at the premises. A remote server may comprise data for enabling a protocol supported by the security system. The gateway device may receive, from the remote server, the data for enabling a protocol. The gateway device may communicate, based on the protocol, with the security system.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

sending, by a gateway device located at a premises and to a security server located external to the premises, a first message indicating configuration data for enabling a protocol associated with a security system located at the premises;

receiving, by the gateway device and from the security server, the configuration data;

update, based on the configuration data, the gateway device to enable the gateway device to communicate via the protocol; and

sending, by the gateway device to the security system and based on the protocol, a second message.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining an identifier associated with security system, and wherein the first message indicates the configuration data based on the identifier.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining that the security system is located at the premises; and

determining, based on determining that the security system is located at the premises, to send the first message.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the security server comprises additional configuration data for enabling communication via an additional protocol associated with an additional security system different from the security system, wherein the protocol is specific to the security system and the additional protocol is specific to the additional security system.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein a first device of the security system is not able to communicate, via the protocol, with a second device of the additional security system.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the protocol comprises a wireless protocol.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the second message comprises a command for configuring the security system.

8. A system comprising:

a security server located external to a premises; and

a gateway device located at the premises and in communication with a security system located at the premises, wherein the gateway device is configured to;

send, to a security server located external to the premises, a first message indicating configuration data for enabling a protocol associated with the security system;

receive, from the security server, the configuration data;

update, based on the configuration data, the gateway device to enable the gateway device to communicate via the protocol; and

send, to the security system and based on the protocol, a second message.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the gateway device is further configured to determine an identifier associated with security system, and wherein the first message indicates the configuration data based on the identifier.

10. The system of claim 8, wherein the gateway device is further configured to:

determine that the security system is located at the premises; and

determine, based on determining that the security system is located at the premises, to send the first message.

11. The system of claim 8, wherein the security server comprises additional configuration data for enabling communication via an additional protocol associated with an additional security system different from the security system, wherein the protocol is specific to the security system and the additional protocol is specific to the additional security system.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein a first device of the security system is not able to communicate, via the protocol, with a second device of the additional security system.

13. The system of claim 8, wherein the protocol comprises a wireless protocol.

14. The system of claim 8, wherein the second message comprises a command for configuring the security system.

15. A device comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to;

send, to a security server located external to a premises, a first message indicating configuration data for enabling a protocol associated with a security system located at the premises;

receive, from the security server, the configuration data;

update, based on the configuration data, the device to enable the device to communicate via the protocol; and

send, to the security system and based on the protocol, a second message.

16. The device of claim 15, wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the device to determine an identifier associated with security system, and wherein the first message indicates the configuration data based on the identifier.

17. The device of claim 15, wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the device to:

determine that the security system is located at the premises; and

determine, based on determining that the security system is located at the premises, to send the first message.

18. The device of claim 15, wherein the security server comprises additional configuration data for enabling communication via an additional protocol associated with an additional security system different than the security system, wherein the protocol is specific to the security system and the additional protocol is specific to the additional security system.

19. The device of claim 18, wherein a first device of the security system is not able to communicate, via the protocol, with a second device of the additional security system.

20. The device of claim 15, wherein the protocol comprises a wireless protocol.
