Abstract

Disclosed herein is a method of programming a monitor to process data from a new sensor having a selected location on a vehicle, where in the new sensor transmits a verification code and an identification code as well as said data. The subject monitor programming method basically comprises initiating a programming mode, entering the location of the new sensor, entering a subset of the new sensor'"'"'s identification code; storing the location and subset, exiting the programming mode, initiating a verification mode, receiving the new sensor'"'"'s verification code and identification code, recognizing the verification code, storing the identification code, exitng the verification mode, initiating a normal operation and display mode, comparing the new sensor'"'"'s transmitted identification code with the stored identification code, and processing the data from the new sensor when the transmitted identification code matches the stored identification code.

Claims

1. A method of programming a monitor to process data from a new sensor having a selected location on a vehicle, said new sensor transmitting a verification code and an identification code as well as said data, said monitor programming method comprising the steps of:

a. initiating a programming mode;

b. entering the location of the new sensor;

c. entering a subset of the new sensor'"'"'s identification code;

d. storing said location and subset

e. exiting the programming mode;

f. initiating a verification mode;

g. receiving the new sensor'"'"'s verification code and identification code;

h. recognizing the verification code;

i. storing the identification code;

j. exiting the verification mode;

k. initiating a normal operation and display mode;

l. comparing the new sensor'"'"'s transmitted identification code with the stored identification code; and

m. processing the data from the new sensor when the transmitted identification code matches the stored identification code.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the steps of initiating and exiting the programming mode are accomplished manually.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of initiating the verification mode occurs automatically.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of exiting the verification mode occurs a selected length of time after storing the identification code.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the verification code is no longer received after exiting the verification mode.

6. The method according to claim 1, and further comprising the step of processing the data from the new sensor when the transmitted identification code corresponds to the previously entered subset of the identification code.

7. The method according to claim 1, and further comprising the step of confirming the previously entered location of the new sensor and the subset of the identification code before storing said location and subset.
