Abstract

Disclosed herein are embodiments for Machine Type Communication (MTC). The techniques disclosed may reduce signaling by transmitting MTC data over control planes and avoiding a full cycle of connection procedures typically required for transmission. MTC data may be directly appended to a control plane message. In addition, in order to reduce the signaling load, a WTRU may autonomously release the connection without being told by the network. Techniques may be used to indicate a network provider'"'"'s machine type communication (MTC) capability. The MTC services or capabilities that may be provided by a respective network operator may be communicated to a WTRU.

Claims

1. A method of communication for a machine type communication (MTC) device, the method comprising:

appending MTC data to a control signaling message; and

sending the control signaling message with the appended MTC data.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the sending of the control signaling message with appended MTC data is done in less than a full cycle of a connection procedure.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the control signaling message is a radio resource control (RRC) signaling message.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the MTC data is sent without establishing an RRC connection.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the MTC data is sent without the establishment of data bearers.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising notifying a network that the MTC data has been appended to the control signaling message.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the MTC information comprises MTC capability information of a network.

8. A method of communication for a machine type communication (MTC) device, the method comprising:

receiving MTC data, wherein MTC data is appended to a control signaling message;

receiving the control signaling message with the appended MTC data; and

processing the MTC data.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the MTC data comprises MTC capability information of a network.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein the control signaling message is a broadcast message.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the broadcast message is a system information block message.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein the control signaling message is a radio resource control (RRC) Connection Setup message.

13. The method of claim 8, wherein the control signaling message is a network access stratum (NAS) attach accept message.

14. The method of claim 9, further comprising sending a request for MTC information,

wherein the request for MTC information is appended to the control signaling message.

15. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the WTRU comprising:

a receiver configured to receive machine type communication (MTC) information, wherein the MTC information comprises MTC capability information; and

a processor configured to process the MTC capability information.

16. The WTRU of claim 15, wherein, the MTC information comprises MTC data, wherein the MTC data is appended to a control signaling message.

17. The WTRU of claim 15, wherein the MTC compatibility information comprises network MTC capability information.

18. The WTRU of claim 15, further comprising a transmitter configured to send a RRC Connection Request with an information element (IE), the IE comprising information that the WTRU is an MTC device.

19. The WTRU of claim 15, further comprising a transmitter configured to send a radio resource control (RRC) connection request message with an information element (IE) requesting a capability of a network for small data transmission.

20. The WTRU of claim 15, wherein the MTC compatibility information is appended to at least one of a system information broadcast message, a radio resource control (RRC) connection setup message, an immediate assignment message, a network access stratum attach message, a tracking area update message, a routing area update message, or a location update accept message.
