Abstract

The invention relates to a method for the detection of modified information patterns of a capacitive information carrier comprising at least one electrically conductive material forming at least one modifiable electrically conductive pattern, wherein information is encoded within the characteristics of the electrically conductive pattern. The method comprises at least the steps of modifying the characteristics of the electrically conductive pattern and capacitively detecting a second information pattern encoded within the characteristics of the modified electrically conductive pattern. In a further aspect, the invention relates to a capacitive information carrier for use in the method according to the invention and a method for manufacturing a capacitive information carrier for use in the method according to the invention.

Claims

1. A capacitive information carrier for transmitting information to a capacitive surface sensor wherein the capacitive information carrier is a single-portion pack for a beverage or food preparation machine comprising a conductive lid and/or top cover, wherein a pattern of a dielectric layer is applied on said lid and/or top cover to form an information pattern detectable by the capacitive surface sensor.

The capacitive information carrier according to claim 1, wherein the pattern of the dielectric layer comprises sub-areas wherein the capacitive surface sensor can detect capacitive differences between said sub-areas of the dielectric layer and the remaining conductive surface of the lid and/or top cover.

3. The capacitive information carrier according to claim 2, wherein the sub-areas of the dielectric layer are distributed over the surface of the conductive lid and/or top cover.

4. The capacitive information carrier according to claim 1, wherein the conductive lid and/or top cover comprises an aluminum foil.

5. A system comprising

a. a capacitive information carrier according to claim 1, and,

b. a food or beverage preparation machine,

wherein the food or beverage preparation machine comprises a capacitive surface sensor adapted to detect the information pattern formed by the pattern of the dielectric layer applied on the conductive lid and/or top cover of the single portion pack.

6. The system according to claim 5, wherein the food or beverage preparation machine comprises a means to puncture the lid and/or top cover of the single-portion pack to allow for a preparation of a food or a beverage.

7. The system according to claim 6, wherein the system is configured such that the puncture of the lid and/or top cover of the single-portion pack modifies the information pattern.

8. The system according to claim 5, wherein the food or beverage preparation machine is adapted to detect the information pattern presented by the single-portion pack and to only start the preparation of the food or beverage if the detected information pattern corresponds to an expected information pattern stored within a database.

9. A capacitive information carrier for transmitting information to a capacitive surface sensor comprising an electrically conductive pattern wherein the electrically conductive pattern comprises a predetermined breaking point.

The capacitive information carrier according to claim 9, wherein the capacitive information carrier is applied on a screw cap or part of a snap-on lid for a container, wherein opening the screw cap or removing the snap-on lid from the container leads to a disruption of the electrically conductive pattern at the predetermined breaking point.

11. A method for transmitting information from a capacitive information carrier to a capacitive surface sensor comprising:

a) providing a capacitive surface sensor,

b) providing a capacitive information carrier wherein a first information pattern is encoded within the characteristics of an electrically conductive pattern,

c) modifying the characteristics of the electrically conductive pattern due to external conditions to encode a second information pattern, and

d) bringing the capacitive information carrier into contact with a capacitive surface sensor wherein the second information pattern is capacitively detected by the capacitive surface sensor.

12. The method according to claim 11, wherein the capacitive information carrier comprises the electrically conductive pattern applied on a non-conductive substrate.

The method according to claim 11, wherein the characteristics of the electrically conductive pattern are modified by external conditions selected from a group consisting of a mechanical impact, an electric, electromagnetic and/or magnetic impact, an environmental impact, a chemical impact and an addition of an electrically conductive material.

14. The method according to claim 13, wherein the characteristics of the electrically conductive pattern are modified by a mechanical impact comprising abrasion, scratching, separating, cutting, perforation, punching, velocity, acceleration, shock, physical tampering and/or a pressure change.

The method according to claim 13, wherein the characteristics of the electrically conductive pattern are modified by an electric, electromagnetic and/or magnetic impact comprising laser radiation, electromagnetic radiation, ultraviolet (UV) radiation, infrared (IR) radiation, radiofrequency (RF) radiation, microwave or other electromagnetic radiation, or the application of electrostatic fields and/or electrodynamic fields.

16. The method according to claim 13, wherein the characteristics of the electrically conductive pattern are modified by an environmental impact comprising a change in temperature, humidity and/or moisture.

17. The method according to claim 13, wherein the characteristics of the electrically conductive pattern are modified by a chemical impact comprising chemical reactions of the conductive pattern with an acidic or an alkaline solution.

18. The method according to claim 13, wherein the characteristics of the electrically conductive pattern are modified by an addition of an electrically conductive material, selected from a group of conductive colors, pencils, conductive bridges, inks and/or foils.

The method according to claim 11, wherein the characteristics of the electrically conductive pattern are modified by a combination of at least two external conditions selected from a group consisting of a mechanical impact, an electric, electromagnetic and/or magnetic impact, an environmental impact, a chemical impact and an addition of an electrically conductive material.

20. The method according to claim 11, wherein the electrically conductive pattern comprises at least two different conductive materials.

21. The method according to claim 20, wherein said at least two different conductive materials differ in terms of tensile strength, hardness, ductility, brittleness, thermal coefficient of resistance or solubility in water.

The method according to claim 11, wherein the electrically conductive pattern is formed by at least one sub-area limited by an outline and wherein the information is encoded within the shape, size, arrangement and/or geometry of the electrically conductive pattern and in particular by the conductivity, dimension, shape, number, position and/or arrangement of at least one sub-area and/or the distance of single sub-areas to each other.

The method according to claim 11, wherein the electrically conductive pattern is detected by capacitive surface sensors selected from a group of capacitive surface sensors, comprising electrodes that are geometrically arranged to detect the characteristics of the electrically conductive pattern and/or capacitive surface sensors comprising capacitive touchscreens and/or touchpads incorporated into devices, selected from a group consisting of smartphones, mobile phones, displays, tablet PCs, tablet notebooks, touchpad devices, graphic tablets, televisions, PDAs, MP3 players and trackpads.

24. The method according to claim 11, wherein the modification of the characteristics of the electrically conductive pattern activates a new conductive pattern, deactivates at least a part of the conductive pattern or destroys a conductive pattern completely.

25. The method according to claim 11, wherein the capacitive information carrier is manufactured by a method comprising:

a. providing a non-conductive substrate,

b. providing an electrically conductive material, selected from a group consisting of metal particles, nanoparticles, silver, gold, cooper, and/or aluminum, electrically conductive particles, carbon black, graphite, graphene, ATO (antimony tin oxide), an electrically conductive polymer layer, Pedot, PANI (polyaniline), polyacetylene, polypyrrole, polythiophene, pentacene or any combination thereof, and,

c. applying the electrically conductive material in a structured manner by printing processes and/or foil transfer methods to create an electrically conductive pattern.
