1. A method executed by a child node initiating an association request to connect with a parent node operating on a time-slotted channel hopping (TSCH) network, the method comprising:

  • scanning, by a child node, for one or more available parent nodes on a TSCH network;

    upon determining that there is less than a threshold number of the one or more available parent nodes within communication range of the child node, transmitting an association request to a first parent node among the one or more available parent nodes, the association request including a priority request; and

    receiving, from the first parent node, an association response accepting or rejecting the association request.
