Abstract

An anchor bolt adapter (ABA) for adapting a bolt circle of an anchor bolt foundation to a bolt circle of a pole is adapted to secure a base to a foundation. The ABA can comprise a downwardly positioned female threaded opening configured to receive a first one of the anchor bolts and an upwardly positioned female threaded opening configured to receive a threaded connector bolt.

Claims

1. An anchor bolt adapter (ABA) for adapting a bolt circle of an anchor bolt foundation to a bolt circle of a pole, wherein the foundation includes a plurality of horizontally spaced-apart, upwardly directed anchor bolts having externally threaded upper ends, and the pole including a base portion with a plurality of openings formed therein corresponding to expected positions of the anchor bolts, the adapter comprising:

a downwardly positioned female threaded opening configured to receive a first one of the anchor bolts; and

an upwardly positioned female threaded opening configured to receive a threaded connector bolt, wherein the upwardly positioned female threaded opening is horizontally spaced apart from the downwardly positioned female threaded opening.

2. The ABA of claim 1, further comprising an intermediate upwardly or downwardly positioned female threaded opening, horizontally spaced between the downwardly positioned female threaded opening and the upwardly positioned female threaded opening.

3. The ABA of claim 1, wherein the downwardly positioned female threaded opening extends all the way from an upper surface of the ABA to a lower surface of the ABA.

4. The ABA of claim 1, wherein a center of the downwardly positioned, female threaded opening is spaced apart from a center of the an upwardly positioned female threaded opening by at least 3 cm.

5. The ABA of claim 1, wherein the ABA comprises a forged metal alloy.

6. The ABA of claim 1, wherein the downwardly positioned female threaded opening has a different gauge from the upwardly positioned female threaded opening.

7. A method of adapting a bolt circle of an anchor bolt foundation to a bolt circle of a pole, comprising:

mating a downwardly positioned, female threaded opening of an anchor bolt adapter with an upwardly positioned male threaded anchor bolt having one end anchored into a foundation; and

guiding a male threaded member, extending from a body of the anchor bolt adapter, up through a hole in the bolt circle.

8. The method of claim 7, further comprising mating the upwardly positioned male threaded member with a female threads of a nut, such that at least a portion of the base plate is substantially fixed between a top surface of the anchor bolt adapter and the nut.

9. The method of claim 7, further comprising guiding the upwardly positioned male threaded member of the anchor bolt through a hole in a second bolt circle.

10. The method of claim 7, wherein the anchor bolt adapter comprises an upwardly facing female threaded opening, the male threaded member is a bolt, and further comprising the step of mating the bolt with the upwardly facing female threaded opening

The method of claim 7, wherein the anchor bolt adapter comprises an upwardly facing female threaded opening, the male threaded member is a bolt, and further comprising guiding the downwardly bolt downwards through a hole in the bolt circle, to mate with the upwardly facing female threaded opening.

12. The method of claim 7, wherein the downwardly positioned female threaded opening has a different gauge from the male threaded member.

13. An anchored pole configuration, comprising:

a foundation;

at least an upwardly directed anchor bolt having one end anchored into the foundation, and an opposite, upwardly extending male threaded end;

a pole having a base plate at a lower end, the base plate having a bolt circle;

an adapter having a downwardly facing female threaded opening, in mating arrangement with the male threads of the first anchor bolt; and

an attachment bolt extending from the adapter through the bolt circle.

14. The anchored pole configuration of claim 13, wherein the adapter further comprises upwardly facing female threads in mating arrangement with downwardly facing male threads of the attachment bolt.

15. The anchored pole configuration of claim 13, wherein that attachment bolt has male threads on both ends.

16. The anchored pole configuration of claim 13, wherein the attachment has a unitary construction with the adapter.

17. The anchored pole configuration of claim 13, wherein the adapter has a second, downwardly facing female threaded opening.

18. The anchored pole configuration of claim 13, wherein the downwardly positioned female threaded opening has a different gauge from the attachment bolt.
