Abstract

The disclosed technology relates to antenna configurations for wireless power transmission and supplemental visual signals. In some implementations, the disclosed technology includes a wireless power transmitter with boards that have multiple antennas physically coupled to the board. In some implementations, the antennas boards are arranged in a polygonal configuration (e.g., star shape). Additionally, in some implementations, the antennas can have different polarization configurations.

Claims

1. A method for displaying visual signals associated with wireless power transmission, the method comprising:

receiving a beacon signal from a client device in a wireless power delivery environment, wherein the beacon signal travels along one or more wireless paths between the client device and a wireless power transmitter in the wireless power delivery environment;

determining a direction to transmit power to the client device based, at least in part, on a detected phase of the received beacon signal;

transmitting wireless power to the client device in the determined direction; and

activating, in response to transmitting the wireless power to the client device, a light emitting diode (LED) or group of LEDs positioned to indicate the direction that the wireless power is transmitted.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein activating the LED or group of LEDs comprises:

identifying an antenna or group of antennas that are transmitting wireless power to the client device;

identifying the LED or group of LEDs associated with the antenna or group of antennas; and

activating the identified LED or group of LEDs.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining an amount of power being transmitted to the client device; and

adjusting an intensity or color of the LED or group of LEDs based on the amount of power being transmitted to the client device.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining an amount of power being transmitted to the client device; and

adjusting the group of activated LEDs to indicate the amount of power being transmitted to the client device.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining a charging status of the client device; and

adjusting an illumination of the LED or group of LEDs to indicate the charging status of the client device.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein adjusting the illumination of the LED or group of LEDs comprises modifying an intensity or color of light emitted from the LED or group of LEDs.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein adjusting the illumination of the LED or group of LEDs comprises modifying an activation frequency of the LED or group of LEDs.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the activation frequency of the LED or group of LEDs indicates that the client device is fully charged.

9. The method of claim 5, wherein the charging status of the client device is determined based on encoded information associated with a received beacon signal.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

deactivating, in response to ceasing the transmitting of wireless power to the client device in the determined direction, the LED or group of LEDs.

11. A wireless power transmission system comprising:

an antenna array having a plurality of radio frequency (RF) antennas;

a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) configured to indicate a direction that wireless power is transmitted from the wireless power transmission system; and

control circuitry operatively coupled to the antenna array and the plurality of LEDs, the control circuitry configured to;

detect, at one or more antennas of the multiple RF antennas, a beacon signal transmitted by a client device in a wireless power delivery environment,

wherein the beacon signal traverses one or more paths between the client device and the wireless power transmission system in the wireless power delivery environment;

determine a direction to transmit power to the client device based, at least in part, on a detected phase of the received beacon signal at the one or more antennas of the multiple RF antennas;

direct the one or more antennas of the multiple RF antennas to transmit wireless power to the client device in the determined direction; and

responsively activate an LED or group of LEDs of the plurality of LEDs to indicate the determined direction.

12. The wireless power transmission system of claim 11, wherein to active the LED or group of LEDs, the control circuitry is further configured to:

identify the one or more antennas of the multiple RF antennas that are directed to transmit the wireless power to the client device;

identify the LED or group of LEDs associated with the one or more antennas of the multiple RF antennas; and

activate the identified LED or group of LEDs.

13. The wireless power transmission system of claim 11, wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

determine an amount of power being transmitted to the client device; and

adjust an intensity or a color of light emitted from the LED or group of LEDs based on the amount of power being transmitted to the client device.

14. The wireless power transmission system of claim 11, wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

determine an amount of power being transmitted to the client device; and

adjust the group of activated LEDs to indicate the amount of power being transmitted to the client device.

15. The wireless power transmission system of claim 11, wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

determine a charging status of the client device; and

adjust an illumination of the LED or group of LEDs to indicate the charging status of the client device.

16. The wireless power transmission system of claim 15, wherein to adjust the illumination of the LED or group of LEDs, the control circuitry is configured to modify an intensity or color of light emitted from the LED or group of LEDs.

17. The wireless power transmission system of claim 15, wherein to adjust the illumination of the LED or group of LEDs, the control circuitry is further configured to modify an activation frequency of the LED or group of LEDs.

18. The wireless power transmission system of claim 17, wherein the activation frequency of the LED or group of LEDs indicates that the client device is fully charged.

19. The wireless power transmission system of claim 15, wherein the charging status of the client device is determined based on encoded information associated with a received beacon signal.

20. An apparatus comprising:

one or more computer readable storage media having instructions stored thereon which, when executed by one or more processing systems of a wireless power transmission system, direct the wireless power transmission system to;

dynamically determine a direction that the wireless power transmission system is transmitting wireless power to a client device in a wireless power delivery environment based, at least in part, on a phase of a received beacon signal detected at one or more of multiple RF antennas of the wireless power transmission system; and

responsively activate an LED or group of LEDs of the plurality of LEDs to indicate the direction.
