- transmitting, by a network node and in response to a failure to connect to a master network node, an election message, the transmitting using a message broker of the network node, the network node being at least part of a network;
receiving, at the network node and from one or more other network nodes, one or more other election messages;
comparing, by the network node, a network hierarchy of the network node with one or more other network hierarchies of the one or more other network nodes;
designating, by the network node, the network node as another master node, the designating in response to the network hierarchy of the network node being superior to the one or more other network hierarchies of the one or more other network nodes; and
transmitting, by the network node and to the one or more other network nodes, an instruction to use the message broker of the network node for communicating over the network.
