Abstract

Systems and methods comprise a gateway at a premises. The gateway is coupled to a remote system. An interface component is coupled to a processor of the gateway. The interface component comprises at least one module that interfaces and exchanges data with a processing component of a security system installed at a location. The processing component uses a proprietary protocol of the security system for processing data of the security system. The processor controls communications that comprise passing commands from the remote system to the security system, and passing event data of the security system to the remote system.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a gateway device located at a premises, wherein the gateway device is in communication with a remote system and configured to transmit, to the remote system, data associated with a security system located at the premises; and

an interface device in communication with the security system and the gateway device,

wherein the interface device is configured to;

receive, in a first mode and via a first communication protocol, an indication of a premises event from the security system, wherein the first communication protocol is associated with the security system, wherein the first mode is associated with saving power;

switch, based on the indication of the premises event, to a second mode, wherein the second mode is different than the first mode, wherein the interface device is configured to communicate, in the second mode, with the gateway device; and

transmit, in the second mode and via a second communication protocol, data indicative of the premises event to the gateway device, wherein the second communication protocol is different from the first communication protocol.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the interface device is configured to switch, based on a voltage of power supplied to the security system, to the first mode.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the data associated with the security system comprises an indication of the premises event.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the interface device is further configured to:

determine a loss of communication with the gateway device; and

transmit, based on the loss of communication with the gateway device and to the remote system, a communication indicative of the premises event.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the interface device is in communication with at least one premises device located at the premises, wherein the at least one premises device is configured to perform home automation functions.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein the interface device is further configured to transmit, to the gateway device, data from the at least one premises device.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the interface device is in communication with a processing component of the security system, wherein the processing component is configured to relay, to the interface device, data from components of the security system.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the interface device is further configured to:

determine a power state of the security system; and

switch, based on the determination of the power state, to the first mode.

9. A method comprising:

receiving, by an interface device and via a first communication protocol, an indication of a premises event from a security system, wherein the security system is located at a premises, wherein the first communication protocol is associated with the security system, wherein the interface device is in a first mode associated with saving power;

switching, based on the indication of the premises event, to a second mode, wherein the second mode is different than the first mode, wherein the interface device is configured to communicate, in the second mode, with at least one of a gateway device located at the premises and a remote device located external to the premises; and

transmitting, in the second mode and via a second communication protocol, data indicative of the premises event to at least one of the gateway device and the remote device, wherein the second communication protocol is different from the first communication protocol.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the first communication protocol comprises at least one of a Zigbee protocol, a serial protocol, a wireless protocol, and a broadband protocol.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein the second communication protocol comprises at least one of a cellular network protocol, a broadband protocol, a telecommunication protocol, and a wireless protocol.

12. The method of claim 9, wherein the method further comprises:

determining that the data indicative of the premises event was not transmitted to the gateway device; and

transmitting, at least based on the determination that the data was not transmitted to the gateway device, the data to the remote device.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the transmitting the data indicative of the premises event to the remote device comprises transmitting, via a third communication protocol, the data indicative of the premises event to the remote device, wherein the third communication protocol is different than the second communication protocol.

14. The method of claim 9, wherein the method further comprises switching, based on data received from a home automation device located at the premises, to a third mode, wherein the third mode is different from the first mode.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the method further comprises transmitting, to at least one of the gateway device and the remote device, an indication of the data received from the home automation device.

16. A device comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to;

receive, in a first mode and via a first communication protocol, an indication of a premises event from a security system, wherein the security system is located at a premises, wherein the first communication protocol is associated with the security system, wherein the first mode is associated with saving power;

switch, based on the indication of the premises event, to a second mode, wherein the second mode is different than the first mode, wherein the device is configured to communicate, in the second mode, with at least one of a gateway device located at the premises and a remote device located external to the premises; and

transmit, in the second mode and via a second communication protocol, data indicative of the premises event to at least one of the gateway device and the remote device, wherein the second communication protocol is different from the first communication protocol.

17. The device of claim 16, wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the device to:

determine, in the second mode, that the data indicative of the premises event was transmitted to the at least one of the gateway device and the remote device; and

switch, based on the determination that the data was transmitted, to the first mode.

18. The device of claim 17, wherein the premises event is associated with an alarm triggered at the premises.

19. The device of claim 16, wherein the instructions that, when executed, further cause the device to determine a power state of the security system.

20. The device of claim 19, wherein the instructions that, when executed, further cause the device to switch, based on the determination of the power state of the security system, to the first mode.
