1. A method of mitigating radiation induced injury to a mammal that has been exposed to an external source of radiation, comprising the steps of:
- (a) identifying a mammal that has been exposed to an external source of radiation,(b) ascertaining a time of exposure to the external source of radiation, and thereafter(c) knowingly delaying administration of a pharmaceutically effective amount of a composition comprising at least one CXCR4 antagonist to the mammal for a delay period sufficient to cause administration to commence at least 48 hours after time of exposure.
