Abstract

A computer-implemented system and method for call status determination is provided. A request for verification of incoming calls to a party is received. An incoming call from a caller to that party is identified and metadata associated with the incoming call is obtained. An identification of the caller and whether a security certificate is present is determined from the metadata. A connection status of the call is determined based on one of a presence and absence of the security certificate. A notification of the connection status is provided to the party.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented system for call status determination, comprising:

a security server to perform the following;

receive a request for verification of incoming calls to a party;

identify an incoming call from a caller to that party;

obtain metadata associated with the incoming call;

obtain from the metadata an identification of the caller and whether a security certificate for the caller is present; and

determine a connection status of the call based on one of a presence and absence of the security certificate; and

a notification of the connection status transmitted to the party.

2. A system according to claim 1, wherein the metadata is collected during a ring tone of the incoming call.

3. A system according to claim 1, wherein a record of the incoming call is stored in a log organized by one of call or party.

4. A system according to claim 1, wherein a type of the notification is based on a device on which the incoming call is received.

5. A system according to claim 1, wherein sensitive and non-sensitive information is received during the incoming call when the call connection is determined to be secure.

6. A system according to claim 1, wherein non-sensitive information is received during the incoming call when the call connection is determined to be unsecure.

7. A system according to claim 1, wherein the notification comprises an identity of the caller.

8. A system according to claim 1, wherein the notification comprises one of a picture, symbol, and text.

9. A system according to claim 1, wherein the notification provides one of a secure connection status when the security certificate is present and one of an unsecure connection status when the security certificate is absent from the metadata.

10. A system according to claim 1, wherein the party determines whether to accept the call from the caller based on the connection status.

11. A computer-implemented method for call status determination, comprising:

receiving a request for verification of incoming calls to a party;

identifying an incoming call from a caller to that party;

obtaining metadata associated with the incoming call;

obtaining from the metadata an identification of the caller and whether a security certificate for the caller is present;

determining a connection status of the call based on one of a presence and absence of the security certificate; and

sending a notification of the connection status to the party.

12. A method according to claim 11, further comprising:

collecting the metadata during a ring tone of the incoming call.

13. A method according to claim 11, further comprising:

storing a record of the incoming call in a log organized by one of call or party.

14. A method according to claim 11, further comprising:

determining a type of the notification based on a device on which the incoming call is received.

15. A method according to claim 11, wherein sensitive and non-sensitive information is received during the incoming call when the call connection is determined to be secure.

16. A method according to claim 11, wherein non-sensitive information is received during the incoming call when the call connection is determined to be unsecure.

17. A method according to claim 11, wherein the notification comprises an identity of the caller.

18. A method according to claim 11, wherein the notification comprises one of a picture, symbol, and text.

19. A method according to claim 11, wherein the notification provides one of a secure connection status when the security certificate is present and one of an unsecure connection status when the security certificate is absent from the metadata.

20. A method according to claim 11, wherein the party determines whether to accept the call from the caller based on the connection status.
