Abstract

A prosthetic aortic valve includes an annular, annulus inflow portion that is designed to reside in or near the patient'"'"'s native aortic valve annulus, and an annular, aortic outflow portion that is designed to reside in the patient'"'"'s aorta downstream from at least a portion of the valsalva sinus. The annulus inflow portion and the aortic outflow portion are connected to one another by a plurality of connecting struts that are confined to regions near the commissures of the patient'"'"'s native aortic valve. The connecting struts are designed to bulge out into the valsalva sinus to help anchor the prosthetic valve in place. The valve is circumferentially collapsible to a relatively small diameter for less-invasive delivery into the patient. The valve circumferentially expands to a larger operational diameter when deployed at the implant site.

Claims

2. A prosthetic heart valve, comprising:

an annular stent frame having an expanded condition and a collapsed condition, the stent frame including an annulus inflow portion, an aortic outflow portion, and a plurality of connecting struts connecting the annulus inflow portion to the aortic outflow portion, the annulus inflow portion including a plurality of commissure structures that are spaced from one another in an annular direction around the annulus inflow portion, each of the commissure structures being cantilevered from at least a respective single point on a remaining structure of the annulus inflow portion not part of the commissure structures; and

a plurality of valve leaflets supported by the annulus inflow portion.

3. The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 2, wherein each of the commissure structures is cantilevered from a respective pair of points on the remaining structure of the annulus inflow portion.

4. The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 2, wherein each of the commissure structures has a free end defining a commissure tip, the commissure tips being the features of the annulus inflow portion that are closest to the aortic outflow portion.

5. The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 4, wherein each of the commissure tips is at an apex of a V-shaped structure that is cantilevered from a respective pair of the connecting struts.

6. The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 5, wherein the annulus inflow portion is devoid of structure other than the V-shaped structures.

7. The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 6, wherein the plurality of connecting struts include a first group of connecting strut pairs and a second group of connecting strut pairs, the connecting strut pairs in the first group alternating with the connecting strut pairs in the second group in the annular direction around the annulus inflow portion, each of the V-shaped structures being positioned between a respective pair of the connecting struts in the first group and the annulus inflow portion being devoid of structure between each of the respective pairs of connecting struts in the second group.

8. The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 4, wherein each of the connecting struts is connected to the annulus inflow portion only at a respective point that is farther from the aortic outflow portion than each of the commissure tips.

The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 2, wherein an edge of the annulus inflow portion that is most remote from the aortic outflow portion includes a recessed edge portion aligned with at least one of the commissure structures, the recessed edge portion being closer to the aortic outflow portion than other portions of the edge of the annulus inflow portion.

10. The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 2, wherein each commissure structure has a first end and a free end, the commissure structure being connected to the annulus inflow portion only at the first end.

11. The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 2, wherein each of the commissure structures includes two post members spaced apart from one another in the annular direction.

12. The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 11, wherein each of the commissure structures is cantilevered from a respective pair of points on the remaining structure of the annulus inflow portion.

13. The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 2, wherein the annulus inflow portion includes a plurality of diamond-shaped cells, each of the cells having a first apex pointing toward the aortic outflow portion and a second apex pointing away from the aortic outflow portion, each of the commissure structures being cantilevered from the first apex of a respective one of the cells.

14. The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 2, further comprising a plurality of anchor members that are resiliently biased to incline outwardly from the stent frame.

15. The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 2, wherein each of the commissure structures includes an aperture.

16. The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 2, wherein each commissure structure is joined to the remaining structure of the annulus inflow portion at an intersection, each intersection including an aperture.

17. A prosthetic heart valve, comprising:

an annular stent frame having an expanded condition and a collapsed condition, the stent frame extending from a proximal end to a distal end and including an annulus inflow portion at the proximal end, an aortic outflow portion at the distal end, and a plurality of connecting struts connecting the annulus inflow portion to the aortic outflow portion, the annulus inflow portion including a plurality of commissure structures that are spaced from one another in an annular direction around the annulus inflow portion, each of the commissure structures being cantilevered from a respective pair of points on a remaining structure of the annulus inflow portion not part of the commissure structures, each of the commissure structures having a free end, the free ends being features of the annulus inflow portion that are closest to the aortic outflow portion; and

a plurality of valve leaflets supported by the annulus inflow portion.

The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 17, wherein an edge of the annulus inflow portion that is most remote from the aortic outflow portion includes a recessed edge portion aligned with at least one of the commissure structures, the recessed edge portion being closer to the aortic outflow portion than other portions of the edge of the annulus inflow portion.

19. The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 17, wherein each commissure structure has a first end opposite the free end, the commissure structure being connected to the annulus inflow portion only at the first end.

20. The prosthetic heart valve as claimed in claim 17, wherein the free end of each of the commissure structures is at an apex of a V-shaped structure that is cantilevered from a respective pair of the connecting struts.
