Abstract

A patient interface device (8) structured to engage a patient'"'"'s sub-nasal area is provided and includes a body (22), a cushion (50) and a custom cushion support assembly (100). Patient interface device body includes a sidewall (27) with an upper side (32) including a number of passages (40).Cushion includes a resilient body (52). Cushion body is disposed on patient interface device body. Patient interface device cushion body includes an engagement portion (60) structured to engage a patient'"'"'s sub-nasal area, and a pocket (70) disposed under cushion body engagement portion. Custom cushion support assembly includes a body (102) with an upper surface (104) including a custom contour (110). Custom cushion support assembly body is disposed in patient interface device cushion body pocket. In this configuration, custom contour deforms patient interface device cushion body engagement portion to correspond to patient'"'"'s sub-nasal area.

Claims

1. A custom cushion support assembly for a patient interface device cushion, the patient interface device cushion including a resilient body, the patient interface device cushion body including an engagement portion structured to engage a patient'"'"'s sub-nasal area, and, a pocket disposed under the cushion body engagement portion, the patient interface device cushion body engagement portion defining a number of passages, the cushion support assembly comprising:

a generally smooth body including an upper surface and defining a number of passages;

the custom cushion support assembly body upper surface including a custom contour; and

the custom cushion support assembly body upper surface custom contour structured to deform the patient interface device cushion body engagement portion to correspond to the patient'"'"'s sub-nasal area.

2. The custom cushion support assembly of claim 1, wherein the cushion support assembly body is one of a substantially rigid body, a substantially rigid body including a transverse hinge, or a substantially semi-rigid body.

3. The custom cushion support assembly of claim 1, wherein the cushion support assembly body upper surface custom contour is an exaggerated custom contour.

5. The custom cushion support assembly of claim 1, wherein the custom cushion support assembly body upper surface custom contour is structured to deform the patient interface device cushion body engagement portion to correspond to one of a patient'"'"'s full sub-nasal area or a patient'"'"'s peripheral sub-nasal area.

A custom cushion support assembly for a patient interface device cushion, the patient interface device cushion including a resilient body, the patietn interface device cushion body including an engagement portion structured to engage a patient'"'"'s sub-nasal area, and a pocket disposed under the cushion body engagement portion, the patient interface device cushion body engagement portion defining a number of passages, the cushion support assembly comprising:

a body including an upper surface and defininga number of passages;

the custom cushion support assembly body upper surface including a custom contour;

the custom cushion support assembly body upper surface custom contour structural to deform the patient interface device cushion body engagement portion to correspond in the patient'"'"'s sub-nasal area;

the cushion support assembly body upper surface includes a number of collars;

each collar extending about a cushion support assembly body passage; and

each collar including a custom contour corresponding to the patient'"'"'s inner sub-nasal area.

6. A patient interface device*, structured to engage a patient'"'"'s sub-nasal area, the patient interface device comprising:

a body including a sidewall, the patient interface device body sidewall defining a chamber;

the patient interface device body sidewall including an upper side;

the patient interface device body sidewall upper side including a number of passages;

a cushion including a resilient body, the cushion body disposed on the patient interface device body;

the patient interface device cushion body including;

an engagement portion structured to engage a patient'"'"'s sub-nasal area, and, a pocket disposed under the cushion body engagement portion;

the patient interface device cushion body engagement portion including a number of passages;

a custom cushion support assembly including a body;

the custom cushion support assembly body including an upper surface and defining a number of passages;

the custom cushion support assembly body upper surface including a custom contour;

the custom cushion support assembly body disposed in the patient interface device cushion body pocket with each custom cushion support assembly body passage aligned with a patient interface device cushion body engagement portion passage;

wherein the custom cushion support assembly body upper surface custom contour deforms the patient interface device cushion body engagement portion to correspond to the patient'"'"'s sub-nasal area.

7. The patient interface device of claim 6, wherein the custom cushion support assembly body is one of a substantially rigid body, a substantially rigid body including a transverse hinge, or a substantially semi-rigid body.

8. The patient interface device of claim 6, wherein the custom cushion support assembly body upper surface custom contour is an exaggerated custom contour.

9. The patient interface device of claim 6, wherein:

the custom cushion support assembly body upper surface includes a number of collars;

each collar extending about a cushion support assembly body passage; and

each collar including a custom contour corresponding to the patient'"'"'s inner sub-nasal area.

10. The patient interface device of claim 6, wherein the custom cushion support assembly body upper surface custom contour is structured to deform the patient interface device cushion body engagement portion to correspond to one of a patient'"'"'s full sub-nasal area or a patient'"'"'s peripheral sub-nasal area.

11. The patient interface device of claim 6, wherein:

the custom cushion support assembly body is one of a custom size or a generic size; and

the patient interface device cushion body pocket is one of a custom size or a generic size.

12. The patient interface device of claim 6, wherein the custom cushion support assembly body fits snugly within the pocket.

13. The patient interface device of claim 6, wherein:

the patient interface device cushion body engagement portion includes a fabric layer and a resilient layer;

the patient interface device cushion body engagement portion resilient layer disposed adjacent to the patient interface device body chamber; and

the patient interface device cushion body engagement portion fabric layer structured to engage a patient'"'"'s sub-nasal area.

14. The patient interface device of claim 13, wherein:

the patient interface device cushion body pocket includes an inner resilient layer; and

the patient interface device cushion body pocket inner resilient layer defining a passage.

15. The patient interface device of claim 6, wherein:

the patient interface device body includes a first lateral port and a second lateral port; and

the patient interface device body first lateral port and the patient interface device body second lateral port are in fluid communication with the patient interface device body chamber.

16. The patient interface device of claim 6, wherein:

the cushion support assembly body includes a cushion body engagement support portion and a peripheral portion;

the cushion support assembly body cushion body engagement support portion coupled to the patient interface device cushion body engagement portion; and

the cushion support assembly body peripheral portion engaging the pocket.

17. The patient interface device of claim 6, wherein the patient interface device body includes a nose strap.

18. A method of using a patient interface device structured to engage a patient'"'"'s sub-nasal area, the patient interface device including a body a cushion, and a cushion support assembly, the patient interface device body including a sidewall, the patient interface device body sidewall defining a chamber, the patient interface device body sidewall including an upper side, the patient interface device body sidewall upper side including a number of passages, the cushion including a resilient body, the patient interface device cushion body including an engagement portion structured to engage a patient'"'"'s sub-nasal area, and, a pocket disposed under the cushion body engagement portion, the patient interface device cushion body engagement portion including a number of passages, the patient interface device cushion body engagement portion defining a number of passages, the cushion support assembly including a body, the cushion support assembly body including an upper surface and defining a number of passages, the cushion support assembly body upper surface including a custom contour, the cushion support assembly body structured to be disposed in the patient interface device cushion body pocket with each cushion support assembly body passage aligned with a patient interface device cushion body engagement portion passage, wherein the cushion support assembly body upper surface custom contour deforms the patient interface device cushion body engagement portion to corresponding to the patient'"'"'s sub-nasal area, the method comprising:

inserting the cushion support assembly body into the patient interface device cushion body pocket; and

positioning the patient interface device body under the patient'"'"'s nose with the cushion body engagement portion in corresponding engagement with the patient'"'"'s sub-nasal area.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein inserting the cushion support assembly body into the patient interface device cushion body pocket includes centering the cushion support assembly body in the pocket.
