Abstract

A method for driving a display, a display device, and a source driver. The method includes receiving and storing data obtained by dividing and compressing an image frame, decompressing the data, scanning the decompressed data, storing a result of the scanning, and displaying an image corresponding to the scan result.

Claims

1. A method for driving a display, the method comprising:

receiving and storing data obtained by dividing and compressing an image frame;

decompressing the data to form decompressed data;

scanning the decompressed data;

storing a result of the scanning to form stored result of the scanning; and

displaying an image corresponding to the result of the scanning.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the scanning of the decompressed data comprises determining whether an image corresponding to the data corresponds to a simple pattern.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the scanning of the decompressed data comprises determining whether an image corresponding to the data corresponds to any one of predetermined simple patterns.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the simple pattern shows black on a portion of a divided image frame.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein the simple pattern is at least one of i) a pattern showing predetermined figure and ii) a pattern showing a uniform color in a portion of a divided image frame.

6. The method of claim 2, wherein the displaying the image corresponding to the results of the scanning comprises alternately displaying the simple pattern and a non-simple pattern.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the result of the scanning includes:

a result of determining whether an image corresponding to the data corresponds to a predetermined simple pattern; and

a result of classification of which one of a plurality of predetermined simple patterns corresponds to the image corresponding to the data.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the displaying of the image corresponding to the results of the scanning comprises:

generating and displaying an image corresponding to the stored result of the scanning;

or

displaying an image corresponding to the result of the scanning among pre-stored images.

9. A display device comprising:

a memory configured to receive and store first data, obtained by dividing and compressing an image frame, to create stored data;

a decompressor configured to read and decompress the data stored data in the memory to form decompressed data;

a block scanner configured to scan the decompressed data to produce a scan result;

a pattern buffer configured to store the scan result; and

a pattern generator configured to control a display to display an image, representing data of a pattern that corresponds to the scan result, on the display.

10. The display device of claim 9, wherein the block scanner, in operation, produces indicia of a determination of whether the first data correspond to a simple pattern.

11. The display device of claim 10, wherein, when the first data correspond to the simple pattern, the block scanner is configured to scan the first data to classify which one of a plurality of pre-stored simple patterns corresponds to the first data.

12. The display device of claim 10, wherein the simple pattern shows black in a portion of a divided image frame.

13. The display device of claim 10, wherein the simple pattern is any one of a pattern showing a predetermined figure and a pattern showing the same single color in a portion of a divided image frame.

14. The display device of claim 10, further comprising a multiplexer,

and, wherein the pattern generator is further configured to control the multiplexer to produce an output including the decompressed data when the indicia represent that the scan result corresponds to a non-simple pattern.

15. The display device of claim 9, wherein the pattern generator includes a memory configured to store patterns, and is further configured to produce an output representing a particular pattern, from the plurality of patterns stored in the memory, when the scan result corresponds to the particular pattern from the plurality of patterns stored in the memory.

16. The display device of claim 9, wherein the pattern generator is configured to generate and output the pattern that corresponds to the scan result.

17. The display device of claim 9, further comprising a source driver,

wherein the pattern generator is configured to provide a control signal to the source driver to display the pattern that corresponds to the scan result on the display.

18. The display device of claim 9, further comprising an application processor and a mobile industry processor interface (MIPI), and wherein the display device is included in a timing controller, and

the timing controller is structured to receive, in operation of the device, the compressed data from the application processor through the MIPI.

19. A source driver comprising:

gamma generators configured to provide a gamma voltage;

digital-to-analog converters configured to receive and convert the gamma voltage into a corresponding grayscale signal;

buffer amplifiers configured to buffer and output the grayscale signal to pixels; and

switches configured to electrically connect the pixels so that the identical grayscale signal is provided to a plurality of pixels.

20. The source driver of claim 19, wherein the switches electrically connect all pixels in a predetermined region of a display.

21. The source driver of claim 19, wherein the switches electrically connect pixels that are in a predetermined region of a display and that display an identical color.

22. The source driver of claim 19, wherein the gamma generators include a red gamma generator, a green gamma generator, and a blue gamma generator, and each of the red gamma generator, the green gamma generator, and the blue gamma generator includes a plurality of amplifiers and provides the gamma voltage by at least some of the plurality of amplifiers.

23. The source driver of claim 22, wherein the at least some amplifiers from said plurality include one of amplifiers included in the red gamma generator, the green gamma generator, and the blue gamma generator.

24. The source driver of claim 22, wherein the at least some amplifiers include one of the amplifiers included in the red gamma generator, one of the amplifiers included in the green gamma generator, and one of the amplifiers included in the blue gamma generator.

25. The source driver of claim 19, wherein one of the buffer amplifiers is configured to provide the grayscale signal to all the pixels in a group.

26. The source driver of claim 19, wherein one of the buffer amplifiers provides the grayscale signal to pixels that are included in a group and that display an identical color.

27. The source driver of claim 19, configured to control activation of the buffer amplifiers with an externally-provided control signal.

28. The source driver of claim 19, configured to control activation of the gamma generators with an externally-provided control signal.

29. The source driver of claim 27, configured to employ the externally-provided control signal when a displayed image of a block, driven by the source driver, corresponds to a simple pattern.

30. The source driver of claim 28, configured to employ the externally-provided control signal when a displayed image of a block, driven by the source driver, corresponds to a simple pattern
