Abstract

Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for recording video data of an event. The apparatuses include a processor communicating with memory. The memory stores video data of the event captured by a camera, and the video data includes a series of picture frames of the event. A loop buffer also stores video data of the event captured by the camera. A rule-based engine stored in the memory uses a set of rules to store the contents of the loop buffer in the memory. The apparatus utilizes the loop buffer to provide video data prior to occurrence of the event.

Claims

2. A system, comprising:

a processor;

a buffer in communication with the processor;

a camera configured to capture video data;

a wireless interface; and

memory having program instructions stored therein that are executable by the processor to cause the system to perform operations including;

receiving vehicle data from an ignition sensor of a vehicle;

in response to the received vehicle data, storing the video data in the buffer; and

in response to a triggering event, transferring the stored video from the buffer to a remote device via the wireless interface.

3. The system of claim 2, further comprising a microphone configured to capture audio data, wherein the operations further include:

in response to the received vehicle data, storing the audio data in the buffer; and

in response to the triggering event, transferring the stored audio from the buffer to the remote device via the wireless interface.

4. The system of claim 2, wherein the operations further include, in response to the triggering event, transferring the stored video from the buffer to a different memory device in the vehicle.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the different memory device is at least one of a memory subsystem or a flash memory.

6. A system, comprising:

a processor; and

memory having program instructions stored therein that are executable by the processor to cause the system to perform operations including;

receiving vehicle data from an ignition sensor of a vehicle;

receiving video data from a camera; and

in response to the received vehicle data, sending the received video data to a first memory to be stored as time-delayed video data.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the operations further include, in response to a triggering event, transferring the time-delayed video from the first memory to a different memory device.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein the different memory device is at least one of a memory subsystem or a flash memory in the vehicle.

9. The system of claim 7, wherein the different memory device is a remote device, and wherein the transfer is configured to occur via a wireless interface.

10. The system of claim 6, wherein the operations further include:

receiving audio data from a microphone; and

in response to the received vehicle data, sending the received audio data to the first memory to be stored as time-delayed audio data.

11. A system, comprising:

a processor;

memory having program instructions stored therein that are executable by the processor to cause the system to perform operations including;

receiving vehicle data, wherein the vehicle data includes ignition data of a vehicle;

receiving video data from a camera; and

in response to the received ignition data, sending the received video data to a storage to be stored as time-delayed video data.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the operations further include, in response to a triggering event, transferring the time-delayed video from the storage to a different storage device.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the different storage device is at least one of a memory subsystem or a flash memory in the vehicle.

14. The system of claim 12, wherein the different storage device is a remote device, and wherein the transferring is via a wireless interface.

15. The system of claim 12, wherein the vehicle data further comprises accelerometer data, and wherein the triggering event is an occurrence of unusually high accelerometer data that exceeds a threshold.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the different storage device is at least one of a memory subsystem or a flash memory in the vehicle.

17. The system of claim 15, wherein the different storage device is a remote device, and wherein the transferring occurs via a wireless interface.

18. The system of claim 11, further comprising an ignition switch configured to provide the ignition data.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the operations further include, in response to a triggering event, transferring the time-delayed video from the storage to a different storage device.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the different storage device is at least one of a memory subsystem or a flash memory in the vehicle.

21. The system of claim 19, wherein the different storage device is a remote device, and wherein the transferring occurs via a wireless interface.
