Abstract
Norlimbanol in general and particularly its isomer mixture Timberol®, an amber-woody fragrance, is able to specifically inhibit the trimethylamine-induced h TAAR5 activation up to 96%. Moreover, human psychophysical data showed that the presence of Timberol® increases the olfactory detection threshold for the characteristic fishy odor of trimethylamine by almost one order of magnitude.

11. A method for identifying compounds capable for inhibiting and/or masking fishy odours comprising the following steps:
-
(a) providing a source of TAAR5-transfected cells; (b) adding an amount of TMA as the agonist to said source of TAAR5 cells; (c) adding an amount of putative antagonist substance to said source of TAAR5 cells; and (d) measuring the hTAAR5-mediated TMA response.
