Abstract

A control method for controlling an information processing apparatus communicating with a communication apparatus capable of performing at least wireless communication using a first frequency band and wireless communication using a second frequency band includes transmitting connection information and frequency band information to the communication apparatus upon receipt of an execution instruction, where the connection information is used to wirelessly connect to the external apparatus and the frequency band information is related to a frequency band used to wirelessly connect to the external apparatus.

Claims

1. A method for controlling an information processing apparatus communicating with a communication apparatus capable of performing at least wireless communication using a first frequency band and wireless communication using a second frequency band, the method comprising:

receiving an execution instruction to execute processing for wirelessly connecting the communication apparatus and an external apparatus; and

transmitting, in response to receiving the execution instruction, connection information and frequency band information to the communication apparatus, where the connection information is used to wirelessly connect to an external apparatus and the frequency band information is related to a frequency band used to wirelessly connect to the external apparatus,

wherein, in a case where the connection information and the frequency band information have been transmitted to the communication apparatus, a frequency band corresponding to the transmitted frequency band information from among the first and the second frequency bands is preferentially used, and

wherein the communication apparatus and the external apparatus are connected based on the connection information.

2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

transmitting the connection information to the communication apparatus, where the connection information is used to wirelessly connect to one external apparatus from among external apparatuses that the communication apparatus is connectable to and the frequency band information is related to a frequency band used to wirelessly connect to the one external apparatus.

3. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

acquiring, from the communication apparatus, information about external apparatuses that the communication apparatus is connectable to; and

displaying a selection screen for selecting one external apparatus from among the external apparatuses based on the information about the external apparatuses,

wherein the connection information and the frequency band information are transmitted to the communication apparatus, where the connection information is used to wirelessly connect to the selected external apparatus and the frequency band information is related to a frequency band used to wirelessly connect to the selected external apparatus.

The method according to claim 1, wherein the connection information and the frequency band information are transmitted to the communication apparatus, where the connection information is used to wirelessly connect to the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received and the frequency band information is related to a frequency band used to connect to the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received.

5. The method according to claim 4, wherein the connection information and the frequency band information are acquired by the information processing apparatus from the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received,

wherein, the connection information is used to wirelessly connect to the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received, and

wherein the frequency band information is related to a frequency band used to connect to the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received.

6. The method according to claim 1,

wherein, in a case where the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received is included among external apparatuses that the communication apparatus is connectable to, the connection information and the frequency band information are transmitted to the communication apparatus,

wherein the connection information is used to wirelessly connect to the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received,

wherein the frequency band information is related to a frequency band used to wirelessly connect to the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received, and

wherein, in a case where the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received is not included among the external apparatuses that the communication apparatus is connectable to, the connection information is transmitted to the communication apparatus and is used to wirelessly connect to one external apparatus from among the external apparatuses that the communication apparatus is connectable to.

The method according to claim 6, wherein, in a case where the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received is not included among the external apparatuses that the communication apparatus is connectable to, the frequency band information is transmitted to the communication apparatus and is related to a frequency band used to wirelessly connect to one external apparatus from among the external apparatuses that the communication apparatus is connectable to.

8. The method according to claim 6, further comprising:

acquiring information about external apparatuses that the communication apparatus is connectable to and information about the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received; and

determining, based on the information about external apparatuses that the communication apparatus is connectable to and the information about the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received, whether the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received is included among the external apparatuses that the communication apparatus is connectable to,

wherein, in a case where the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received is determined to be included among the external apparatuses that the communication apparatus is connectable to, the connection information and the frequency band information are transmitted to the communication apparatus,

wherein, the connection information is used to wirelessly connect to the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received,

wherein, the frequency band information is related to a frequency band used to wirelessly connect to the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received, and

wherein, in a case where the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received is determined not to be among the external apparatuses that the communication apparatus is connectable to, the connection information is transmitted to the communication apparatus, where the connection information is used to wirelessly connect to one external apparatus from among the external apparatuses that the communication apparatus is connectable to.

The method according to claim 1, further comprising searching to detect external apparatuses, wherein, in a case where the execution instruction is received, the connection information and the frequency band information are transmitted to the communication apparatus, where the connection information is used to wirelessly connect to one external apparatus from among the detected external apparatuses and where the frequency band information is related to a frequency band used to connect to the one external apparatus.

10. The method according to claim 1,

wherein, in a case where the information processing apparatus can perform wireless communication, the connection information and the frequency band information are acquired by the information processing apparatus without assistance by the communication apparatus and transmitted to the communication apparatus, and

wherein, in a case where the information processing apparatus cannot perform wireless communication, at least one or more of the connection information and the frequency band information are acquired by the information processing apparatus from the communication apparatus is transmitted to the communication apparatus.

11. The method according to claim 1, further comprising searching to detect an external apparatus,

wherein, in a case where the information processing apparatus can perform wireless communication and the information processing apparatus is connected to an external apparatus when the execution instruction is received, the connection information and the frequency band information are transmitted to the communication apparatus, where the connection information is used to wirelessly connect to the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received, and where the frequency band information is related to a frequency band used to connect to the external apparatus that the information processing apparatus is connected to when the execution instruction is received, and

wherein, in a case where the information processing apparatus can perform wireless communication and the information processing apparatus is not connected to an external apparatus when the execution instruction is received, the connection information and the frequency band information are transmitted to the communication apparatus, where the connection information is used to wirelessly connect to one external apparatus from among the detected external apparatuses, and where the frequency band information is related to a frequency band used to connect to the one external apparatus, and

wherein, in a case where the information processing apparatus cannot perform wireless communication, the connection information and the frequency band information are transmitted to the communication apparatus, where the connection information is used to wirelessly connect to one external apparatus from among the external apparatuses that the communication apparatus is connectable to, and where the frequency band information is related to a frequency band used to wirelessly connect to one of the external apparatuses.

The method according to claim 1, further comprising displaying on a display unit an input screen for receiving an input of the connection information and the frequency band information, wherein the connection information and the frequency band information input via the input screen are transmitted to the communication apparatus.

13. The method according to claim 12,

wherein, in a case where the information processing apparatus can perform wireless communication, the connection information and the frequency band information are acquired by the information processing apparatus from an external apparatus and transmitted to the communication apparatus, and

wherein, in a case where the information processing apparatus cannot perform wireless communication, the connection information and the frequency band information input via the input screen are transmitted to the communication apparatus.

14. The method according to claim 1, wherein the external apparatus is an access point.

15. The method according to claim 1, further comprising communicating with the communication apparatus via the external apparatus that the communication apparatus is connected to by using the connection information and the frequency band information.

The method according to claim 1, further comprising transmitting a print job instructing the communication apparatus to perform printing to the communication apparatus via the external apparatus that the communication apparatus is connected to by using the connection information and the frequency band information.

17. The method according to claim 1, wherein the information processing apparatus communicates with the communication apparatus via wireless communication conforming to an IEEE-802.11 series standard.

18. The method according to claim 1, wherein the frequency band information is information about a communication channel corresponding to a frequency band used to wirelessly connect to the external apparatus.

19. The method according to claim 1, wherein the connection information includes at least one or more of an SSID of the external apparatus and a password used to connect to the external apparatus.

20. An information processing apparatus communicating with a communication apparatus that performs at least wireless communication using a first frequency band and wireless communication using a second frequency band, the information processing apparatus comprising:

a reception unit configured to receive an execution instruction to execute processing for wirelessly connecting the communication apparatus and an external apparatus; and

a transmission unit configured to, in response to receipt of the execution instruction, transmit connection information and frequency band information to the communication apparatus, where the connection information is used to wirelessly connect to an external apparatus and the frequency band information is related to a frequency band used to wirelessly connect to the external apparatus,

wherein, the information processing apparatus transmits the connection information and the frequency band information to the communication apparatus to cause the communication apparatus to preferentially use a frequency band corresponding to the transmitted frequency band information from among the first and the second frequency bands and to connect to the external apparatus based on the connection information.
