1. A computerized method for detecting when a monitored individual has fallen within a fall zone, the method performed by a computerized monitoring system and comprising:

  • defining a virtual fall zone within an area that an individual to be monitored is located;

    receiving video data from one or more 3D motion and sound sensors capturing live video data from the area;

    determining that the individual has become at least partially located within the virtual fall zone;

    determining that the individual has remained at least partially located within the virtual fall zone for at least a pre-determined amount of time; and

    upon determining that the individual has remained at least partially located within the virtual fall zone for at least the pre-determined amount of time, automatically transmitting an alert to at least one of a computerized communication system and a centralized monitoring system.
