Abstract

A golf club head comprises a body, a track formed in or attached to the body and having a length and a weight and weight retainer. The weight is continuously repositionable such that it can be positioned at any selected point along the track between its ends. The weight has a major dimension, and the weight retainer comprises a fastening member having a diameter not greater than about one half of the major dimension of the weight.

Claims

1. A golf club head, comprising:

a body including a crown portion, a sole portion, and a skirt portion extending between the crown and the sole portion;

a channel being formed in or attached to the body, the channel including two spaced apart walls and a bottom defined along an outer surface of the body;

first and second weights, each of which is dimensioned to be received in and slidably moveable within the channel, wherein the first and second weights are continuously repositionable within the channel and moveable independently of one another;

at least one fastening member cooperable with each first and second weight and having a loose position to allow the weight to be moveable within the channel or removed from the channel and a tighten position to lock the weight in a desired location within the channel;

wherein the channel and first and second weights are shaped to prevent substantial rotation of each weight in the channel.

2. The golf club head of claim 1 wherein the channel is located at a rear end of the body.

3. The golf club head of claim 1 wherein the channel is located at a rear end of the skirt portion of the body.

4. The golf club head of claim 1 wherein the channel is curved and defines a curved pathway in which the first and second weights may be slidably moved.

5. The golf club head of claim 1 wherein the channel is recessed relative to an adjacent surface of the body.

6. The golf club head of claim 1 wherein each fastening member is threadably engaged by one of the first and second weights.

7. A golf club head comprising:

a body including a crown portion, a sole portion, and a skirt portion extending between the crown and the sole portion;

a channel being formed in or attached to the body, the channel including two spaced apart walls and a bottom defined along an outer surface of the body;

first and second weights, each of which is dimensioned to be received in and slidably moveable within the channel, wherein the first and second weights are continuously repositionable within the channel and moveable independently of one another;

fastening means cooperable with the first and second weights to selectively allow one or both weights to be slideably moved within the channel from one position to another, removed from the channel, or locked into a selected fixed position within the channel; and

wherein the channel and first and second weights are shaped to prevent substantial rotation of the weights in the channel.

8. The golf club head of claim 7, wherein the walls and bottom are formed as a single piece with the body.

9. The golf club head of claim 7, wherein the fastening means threadably engages the first and second weights and has at least one exposed end portion to be driven by a tool.

10. The golf club head of claim 7, wherein the fastening means includes a threaded fastening member and retainer plate associated with each weight.
