Abstract

Provided is a base for wirelessly charging and/or wirelessly powering in which multiple identical or similar charger circuits are replicated and connected to identical or similar coils to provide power to one or more receivers simultaneously, each charging or powering one or more mobile devices, electronics, robots, vehicles, appliances, lights or batteries.

Claims

1. A base for wirelessly charging and/or wirelessly powering in which multiple identical or similar charger circuits are replicated and connected to identical or similar coils to provide power to one or more receivers simultaneously, each charging or powering one or more mobile devices, electronics, robots, vehicles, appliances, lights or batteries.

2. The base of claim 1, wherein the one or more receivers communicate with the base using a common communication method or a common power protocol.

3. The base of claim 1, wherein at least one receiver associated with a mobile device, electronics, robot, vehicle, appliance, light or battery has a communication or power protocol that is not common to another receiver associated with a mobile device, electronics, robot, vehicle, appliance, light or battery.

4. The base of claim 1, whereby a portion or all of the coils are covered by one or more of a thin metal or other conductive material, ferromagnetic or other magnetic material or a combination thereof to reduce undesirable electromagnetic emission from the base.

5. The base of claim 2, having coils in the base or in the receivers, the coils being switched between electrical paths or being switched or tuned by capacitors or inductors to achieve efficient power or efficient communication operation.

6. The base of claim 3, wherein the protocols use different power transfer frequencies or different communication methods that allow for detection of the presence of the device, battery or base.

The base of claim 2, wherein the communication method between the receiver and the base includes communication through a coil as used for transfer of power, through a separate coil, through an RF or optical link, and or through a means involving RFID, Bluetooth, WiFi, Wireless USB, NFC, Felica, Zigbee or Wireless Gigabit (WiGig).

8. The base of claim 3, wherein the plurality of protocols includes at least one of a Wireless Power Consortium protocol, a Power Matters Alliance protocol, an Alliance for Wireless Power protocol, or an Apple protocol.

9. The base of claim 1, wherein the base has a substantially flat surface on which a mobile device, electronics, robot, vehicle, appliance, light or battery may be placed for charging or powering.

10. The base of claim 1, wherein the base has a substantially non-flat or flexible surface for interfacing with a mobile device, electronics, robot, vehicle, appliance, light or battery to be charged or powered.

11. A wireless charging or powering system for wireless charging or powering one or more of electronic, mobile or devices with batteries or batteries themselves or an electric device whereby the wireless charging or powering device combines a display and charging functionality.

12. The wireless charging or powering system of claim 11, where the device is a tablet, netbook or computer or table top computer.

13. The wireless charging or powering system of claim 12, whereby the tablet, netbook, computer or table top computer displays charger status or information about the devices being charged or powered.

14. The wireless charging or powering system of claim 11, whereby the display includes a LCD, Electroluminescent (EL), or LED display and/or displays information useful to the user.

15. The wireless charging or powering system of claim 11, whereby the charging surface of the device is covered totally or partially with an electroluminescent, LCD, LED or other display

16. The wireless charging or powering system of claim 11, whereby commencement of charging may start transfer of data, images, music or other functions between the charger and the device to be charged.

17. The wireless charging or powering system of claim 11, whereby the device is flexible, rollable or laminated to be hermetically sealed.

18. The wireless charging or powering system of claim 11, whereby the device itself can be charged or powered wirelessly by another wireless charger or power supply.
