Method For Controlling Conveyance Of Event Information About Carriers Of Mobile Devices Based On Location Information Received From Location Information Sources Used By The Mobile Devices
First Claim
1. A method for controlling conveyance of event information in a tracking service provided over the Internet to authorized users who track mobile devices identified in a database (DB) by mobile device IDs (DIDs) which are carried by corresponding carriers identified by carrier IDs (CIDs) in groups of carriers identified by corresponding group IDs (GIDs), the DB being maintained by a tracking service administrator having a first level of administrative privilege used to provides access to user accounts after the authorized users of the service log into a first database management system application (DBMSA) with user IDs (IUDs) and passwords, said DBMSA being executed by one or more central or distributed servers in order to track events over a first network of computing devices, said first network of computing devices being used to control conveyance of event information amongst the groups based on the first level of administrative privilege, the method comprising the steps of using the more central or distributed servers to:
- a. give access privileges after the authorized users log into the first DBMSA, at least one access privilege being based on one or more roles that permit performing certain functions in companies or organizations that use the groups identified by the GIDs, at least one role including a role as a group administrator who is given a second level of administrative privilege by the tracking service administrator to log in to an administrator account to perform administrative functions for a group identified by a GID that includes a first carrier identified by a first CID and a second carrier identified by a second CID;
b. interface over one or more wireless networks with
1) a first mobile device identified by a first DID that uses a first location information source (LIS) for obtaining locations of the first carrier, wherein the mobile device uses a first sensor to sense a physical characteristic associated with the first carrier other than location of the first carrier and
2) a second mobile device identified by a second DID that uses a second LIS for obtaining locations of the second carrier, wherein the mobile device uses a second sensor to sense a physical characteristic associated with the second carrier other than location of the second carrier; and
c. interfacing over a second network of computing devices that interfaces with the first network of computing devices to enable the group administrator to log into the administrator account to perform administrative functions that are not performed by the tracking service administrator including;
i. assigning the first carrier to be the carrier of the first mobile device by associating the first CID with the first DID,ii. assigning the second carrier to be the carrier of the second mobile device by associating the second CID with the second DID,iii. setting a user defined zone that is independent of the locations of the first or the second carriers,iv. setting a first event condition for occurrence of a first event that is met based on the locations of the first carrier or the second carrier relative to the user defined zone,v. setting a second event condition for occurrence of a second event that is met based on a sensed physical characteristic by the first sensor or the sensor,vi. specifying an access list that identifies one or more recipients who have access to notifications whenever the first event or the second event occurs, andd. give access to the notifications, said access being given to the one or more recipients on the access list, wherein the notifications include the locations of the first carrier or the second carrier where the second event condition is met.

Abstract
An improved system and method for defining an event based upon an object location and a user-defined zone and managing the conveyance of object location event information among computing devices where object location events are defined in terms of a condition based upon a relationship between user-defined zone information and object location information. One or more location information sources are associated with an object to provide the object location information. One or more user-defined zones are defined on a map and one or more object location events are defined. The occurrence of an object location event produces object location event information that is conveyed to users based on user identification codes. Accessibility to object location information, zone information, and object location event information is based upon an object location information access code, a zone information access code, and an object location event information access code, respectively.
