1. An apparatus for disrupting substances contained in multi-well plates, said apparatus comprising:
- a housing;
one or more guide rod attached to said housing;
one or more box holder attached to one or more guide rod slider, wherein each of said one or more guide rod slider are movably attached to the one or more guide rod;
one or more compression spring each located on one of said one or more guide rod, wherein each of said one or more compression spring on the guide rod is located in-between said housing and said box holder;
an electric motor;
a ring having one or more circumferential tooth, wherein said ring is configured to be spun by said electric motor; and
at least one wedge located on each of said one or more box holder, wherein said wedge and said one or more box holders configured to being continuously spring biased by said one or more compression springs into engagement with the one or more circumferential tooth.

Abstract
The present invention relates to an apparatus for substantially horizontally oscillating one or more multi-well plates containing a liquid, a solid, or a mixture thereof that operates to thoroughly disrupt solid substances in multi-well plates. The apparatus provides oscillation of plates in a horizontal direction through the use of springs and rotating mechanical components. The apparatus includes a circular rotating ring having a toothed circumference that rotates horizontally, plate holder, and a spring attached to the housing and in constant contact with the plate holder. The apparatus can be used in a cold room or placed in a refrigerator to keep the substances at low temperature and to eliminate noise when the disruptor operates.

10. A disruptor for substance in multi-well plates, comprising:

at least one plate; a housing configured to receive said at least one plate; a number of wells located on said at least one plate; at least one plate holder carrying said at least one plate configured to be attachable to said at least one plate holder, wherein the wells are placed horizontally; a substantially circular rotating ring having a teethed circumference rotated substantially horizontally about its axis, wherein each of said teeth is a curved shape where the ends of each of teeth are spaced unequally from the center of the rotating ring; and a substantially horizontal wedge extended from the at least one plate holder towards the teethed rotating ring, wherein the teethed ring is configured to come into contact with wedges of each of said at least one plate holder, and wherein the teethed rotating ring causes substantially horizontal force to be applied to each of the at least one plate holder when the rotating ring turns about the at least one plate holder causing horizontal displacement of the at least one plate holders toward and away from said rotating ring. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14)

15. A cartridge for holding multiple samples of material to be disrupted simultaneously, by means of agitation thereof, comprising in combination:

a) a plate having a plurality of blind holes in side by side relation with one another; b) said blind holes constituting wells configured for holding the substances to be disrupted; c) a cover for said plate, and cooperable means on said plate and cover for releasably attaching the latter to said plate; and d) a resilient sealing layer interposed between said plate and said cover and adapted to be compressed when the cover is installed, so as to seal off the wells in the plate. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18)
