Abstract

Embodiments of the present application provide a communication method, comprising: receiving, by a first access network device from a core network device, signaling destined for a terminal, wherein the terminal is in a radio resource control (RRC) inactive mode; sending a first paging message to a second access network device for paging the terminal, wherein the first access network device and the second access network device are in same paging area; and receiving, from the second access network device, first indication information indicating that the terminal has connected to the second access network device. In the embodiments of the present application, after receiving the signaling destined for the terminal from the core network device, the first access network device can learn the terminal has connected to the second access network device, and therefore performs proper subsequent processing.

Claims

1. A communication system, comprising a first access network device and a second access network device, wherein both the first access network device and the second access network device are in a same paging area;

wherein the first access network device is configured to;

receive, from a core network device, signaling destined for a terminal in a radio resource control (RRC) inactive mode; and

send a first paging message to the second access network device for paging the terminal;

wherein the second access network device is configured to;

send a second paging message to the terminal after receiving the first paging message;

receive a paging response from the terminal; and

send first indication information to the first access network device, wherein the first indication information indicates that the terminal has connected to the second access network device.

2. The system according to claim 1, wherein the first access network device is further configured to send the signaling destined for the terminal to the second access network device.

3. The system according to claim 1, wherein the first access network device is further configured to send second indication information to the core network device, to indicate that the terminal has connected a different access network device than the first access network device.

4. The system according to claim 3, wherein the second indication information is carried in a signaling failure message, and the signaling failure message indicates that the signaling is not sent to the terminal successfully.

5. The system according to claim 3, wherein the different access network device than the first access network device is the second access network device, and the second indication information comprises one or both of the following:

information about the second access network device, and

status information of the terminal.

6. The system according to claim 1, wherein the first access network device is further configured to:

send configuration information to the terminal;

wherein the configuration information instructs the terminal to turn into the RRC inactive mode.

7. The system according to claim 1, wherein the signaling destined for the terminal is one or more of the following:

non-access stratum (NAS) signaling,

radio bearer management signaling,

terminal context modification signaling,

terminal context deletion signaling,

location report signaling,

tracking signaling, and

location service (LCS) signaling.

8. A communication method, comprising:

receiving, by a first access network device from a core network device, signaling destined for a terminal, wherein the terminal is in a radio resource control (RRC) inactive mode;

sending, by the first access network device, a first paging message to a second access network device for paging the terminal, wherein the first access network device and the second access network device are in same paging area; and

receiving, by the first access network device from the second access network device, first indication information indicating that the terminal has connected to the second access network device.

9. The method according to claim 8, further comprising:

sending, by the first network device, the signaling destined for the terminal to the second access network device.

10. The method according to claim 8, further comprising:

sending, by the first network device, second indication information to the core network device;

wherein the second indication information indicates that the terminal has connected a different access network device than the first access network device.

11. The method according to claim 10, wherein the second indication information is carried in a signaling failure message, and the signaling failure message indicates that the signaling is not sent to the terminal successfully.

12. The method according to claim 10, wherein the different access network device than the first access network device is the second access network device, and wherein the second indication information comprises one or both of the following:

information about the second access network device, and

status information of the terminal.

13. The method according to claim 8, further comprising:

sending, by the first access network device, configuration information to the terminal;

wherein the configuration information instructs the terminal to turn into the RRC inactive mode.

14. The method according to claim 8, wherein the signaling destined for the terminal is one or more of the following:

non-access stratum (NAS) signaling,

radio bearer management signaling,

terminal context modification signaling,

terminal context deletion signaling,

location report signaling,

tracking signaling, and

location service (LCS) signaling.

15. A first access network device, comprising:

a transceiver, a processor, and a memory storing program codes for execution by the processor;

wherein when executed by the processor, the program codes cause the transceiver to;

receive, from a core network device, signaling destined for a terminal in a radio resource control (RRC) inactive mode;

send a first paging message to a second access network device for paging the terminal, wherein the first access network device and the second access network device are in same paging area; and

receive, from the second access network device, first indication information indicating that the terminal has connected to the second access network device.

16. The first access network device according to claim 15, wherein the program codes further cause the transceiver to:

send the signaling destined for the terminal to the second access network device.

17. The first access network device according to claim 15, wherein the program codes further cause the transceiver to:

send second indication information to the core network device;

wherein the second indication information indicates that the terminal has connected a different access network device than the first access network device.

18. The first access network device according to claim 17, wherein the second indication information is carried in a signaling failure message, and the signaling failure message indicates that the signaling is not sent to the terminal successfully.

19. The first access network device according to claim 17, wherein the different access network device than the first access network device is the second access network device, and the second indication information comprises one or both of the following:

information about the second access network device, and

status information of the terminal.

20. The first access network device according to claim 15, wherein the program codes further cause the transceiver to:

send configuration information to the terminal;

wherein the configuration information instructs the terminal to turn into the RRC inactive mode.

21. The first access network device according to claim 15, wherein the signaling destined for the terminal is one or more of the following:

non-access stratum (NAS) signaling,

radio bearer management signaling,

terminal context modification signaling,

terminal context deletion signaling,

location report signaling,

tracking signaling, and

location service (LCS) signaling.
