Abstract

The present invention relates to the field of inflammatory bowel disease. In one aspect, the present invention provides methods for treating inflammatory bowel disease in a patient comprising administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of a stem cell mobilizer and an immunosuppressive agent. In particular embodiments, the present invention provides a method for treating inflammatory bowel disease in a patient comprising administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of an agent that mobilizes CD34⁺ and/or CD133⁺ stem cells and a low dose of an immunosuppressive agent.

Claims

1. A method of treating inflammatory bowel disease in a patient comprising administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of a stem cell mobilizer and an immunosuppressive agent.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the stem cell mobilizer is selected from the group consisting of AMD3100, AMD3465, TG-0054, G-CSF, GM-CSF, SDF-1, and SCF.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the stem cell mobilizer is a CXCR4 antagonist.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the stem cell mobilizer is AMD3100.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the immunosuppressive agent is selected from the group consisting of Tacrolimus, cyclosporine, Orthoclone OKT3, mycophenolate, and sirolimus.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the immunosuppressive agent is Tacrolimus.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the immunosuppressive agent is administered in a low dose amount.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the stem cell mobilizer is AMD3100 and the immunosuppressive agent is Tacrolimus.

9. A method of treating inflammatory bowel disease in a patient comprising administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of an agent that mobilizes CD34⁺ and/or CD133⁺ stem cells and a low dose of an immunosuppressive agent.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the agent that mobilizes CD34⁺ and/or CD133⁺ stem cells is AMD3100 and the immunosuppressive agent is Tacrolimus.
