Abstract

A membrane composite comprising a polymeric membrane panel, an adhesive layer, and a release member, where the adhesive layer is a pressure-sensitive adhesive that is at least partially cured, and where the adhesive layer has a thickness of at least 102 μm

Claims

1. A roofing membrane composite comprising:

(i) a polymeric membrane panel for providing a weatherproof polymeric barrier to a building structure, said panel having first and second planar surfaces; and

(ii) a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer disposed on said first planar surface, said pressure-sensitive adhesive being formed by applying a layer of curable hot-melt adhesive composition to said first planar surface and then at least partially curing the adhesive composition.

2. The roofing membrane composite of claim 1, where the curable hot-melt adhesive composition includes a polyacrylate elastomer.

3. The roofing membrane composite of claim 1, where the curable hot-melt adhesive is a polyacrylate including one or more units defined by the formula

4. The roofing membrane composite of claim 2, where the polyacrylate elastomer has a Tg of less than 0°

C.

5. The roofing membrane composite of claim 3, where the polyacrylate has a Tg of less than 0°

C.

6. The roofing membrane composite of claim 4, where the polyacrylate elastomer has a number average molecular weight from about 100 to about 350 kg/mole.

7. The roofing membrane composite of claim 5, where the polyacrylate has a number average molecular weight from about 100 to about 350 kg/mole.

8. The roofing membrane composite of claim 4, where the polyacrylate elastomer has a Brookfield viscosity at 150°

C. of from about 20,000 to about 70,000 cps.

9. The roofing membrane composite of claim 5, where the polyacrylate has a Brookfield viscosity at 150°

C. of from about 20,000 to about 70,000 cps.

10. The roofing membrane composite of claim 2, where the curable hot-melt adhesive composition further includes at least one of a photo initiator, solvent, plasticizer, and resin.

11. The roofing membrane composite of claim 3, where the polyacrylate includes one or more units that serve as photo initiators.

12. The roofing membrane composite of claim 11, where the one or more units that serve as photo initiators include acetophenone or benzophenone derivatives.

13. The roofing membrane composite of claim 1, where the curable hot-melt adhesive composition is thermally processable before at least partially curing the composition, and where said pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is not thermally processable as a result of being at least partially cured.

14. The roofing membrane composite of claim 1, where the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is essentially free of a curative residue.

15. The roofing membrane composite of claim 1, where the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer has a thickness of at least 102 μ

m.

16. The roofing membrane composite of claim 13, where the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer has a thickness of at least 102 μ

m.

17. The roofing membrane composite of claim 1, where the membrane is a thermoset EPDM Membrane.

18. The roofing membrane composite of claim 1, where the membrane is a thermoplastic membrane.

19. The roofing membrane composite of claim 1, where the curable hot-melt adhesive composition is cured by UV radiation.

20. The roofing membrane composite of claim 1, where the composite further includes a release liner.
