Abstract

Various examples are directed to systems and methods for operating and controlling a modular surgical instrument comprising an operating mode. A controller may receive electrical signal associated with an activation of at least one user-actuated input device electrically coupled to the controller and override the operating mode of the surgical instrument upon receiving the electrical signal.

Claims

1. A method for operating a surgical instrument comprising:

sensing a parameter, via a sensor of a surgical instrument, associated with a drive system of the surgical instrument;

implementing, via a controller of the surgical instrument, an operating mode of an electric motor of the surgical instrument;

receiving, via the controller, an electrical signal; and

overriding, via the controller, the operating mode of the electric motor upon receiving the electrical signal; and

wherein the electrical signal comprises an activation of at least one user-actuated input device electrically coupled to the controller.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the operating mode of the surgical instrument is based on the parameter sensed by the sensor.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein implementing the operating mode of the electric motor comprises the controller adjusting power to the electric motor if the parameter exceeds a predefined threshold value.

The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving, via an input from a user selection display of the surgical instrument, a command that configures the controller to override the operating mode for the electric motor upon receiving the activation of the at least one user-actuated input device.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising operating the electric motor according to an input received via the at least one user-actuated input device upon the controller overriding the operating system of electric motor.
