Abstract

This invention discloses an implant for regeneration of tissue with lesions, comprising a mixture with different types of cells, particularly, mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), endothelial cells, and specific functional cells according to the nature and function of the tissue, included into the biocompatible polymeric matrix, where the cells may or may not be organized in a specific way. This innovation also discloses a method to manufacture the implant. The implant of the present invention is useful for replacement or regeneration of animal and human tissues.

Claims

1. A tissue regeneration implant, comprising:

mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs);

endothelial cells;

and functional cells;

where the mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), the endothelial cells and the functional cells for the tissue to be regenerated are embedded in a biocompatible polymeric matrix.

2. The implant of claim 1, wherein the mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) number ranges between 10% and 80% of total cells in the implant.

3. The implant of claim 1, wherein the endothelial cells number ranges between 10% and 80% of total cells in the implant.

4. The implant of claim 1, wherein the functional cells number range between 10% and 80% of total cells in the implant.

5. The implant of claim 1, wherein the mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), endothelial cells and functional cells specific to the tissue are in a 1:

1;

1 proportion, respectively.

6. The implant of claim 1, wherein the biocompatible polymeric matrix has a number of total cells of between 3×

105 and 9×

105 per mm3.

7. The implant of claim 1, wherein the mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are obtained from bone marrow.

8. The implant of claim 1, wherein the endothelial cells are selected from a group consisting of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) differentiated into vascular endothelium, cells obtained from vascular endothelial tissue, and combinations of the cells.

9. The implant of claim 1, wherein the specific functional cells are selected from a group consisting of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) differentiated into a cellular type specific to the tissue to be regenerated, as well as combinations of the cells.

10. The implant of claim 1, wherein the functional cells are cardiomyocytes.

11. The implant of claim 9, wherein the polymeric matrix is type 1 collagen.

12. The implant of claim 1, wherein the mesenchymal stem cells (MSC);

the endothelial cells; and

the functional cells are uniformly distributed in the polymeric matrix.

13. The implant of claim 1, wherein the mesenchymal stem cells (MSC);

endothelial cells; and

functional cells are embedded uniformly in the polymeric matrix.

14. A method for manufacturing a tissue regeneration implant, comprising:

scattering mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), endothelial cells and functional cells;

adding a precursor of a biocompatible polymeric matrix; and

allowing polymerization of the precursor to form the biocompatible polymeric matrix embedded with the mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), endothelial cells and functional cells.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) number ranges between 10% and 80% of total cells in the implant.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein the endothelial cells number ranges between 10% and 80% of total cells in the implant.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein the functional cells number ranges between 10% and 80% of total cells in the implant.

18. The method of claim 14, wherein mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), endothelial cells, and functional cells specific to the tissue provided to make the implant are in 1:

1;

1 proportion respectively.

19. The method of claim 14, wherein the number of total cells in the biocompatible polymeric matrix is between 3×

105 and 9×

105 per mm3.

20. The method of claim 14, wherein the mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) is obtained from bone marrow.
