Abstract
A powered hand-held fastening tool includes a housing defining a handle, a frame, a motor-driven flywheel journaled to the frame, and an elongated driver that is selectively coupled to the flywheel to drive a fastener into a workpiece. The flywheel and driver have complementary sloped surfaces that mesh with each other to transmit energy from the flywheel to the driver to accelerate the driver along the driver axis. A follower assembly for selectively coupling the driver to the flywheel includes a solenoid actuator.

a frame defining a rotational axis and a driver axis; a motor coupled to the frame; a flywheel that is rotatably driven by the motor about the rotational axis and having an outer rim, the outer rim of the flywheel including an exterior surface that has a first and a second flywheel sloped surfaces, the first and second flywheel sloped surfaces forming an acute angle along an axis perpendicular to the driver axis; a driver having a driver profile configured to be complementary to the outer rim of the flywheel, the driver profile having a first and a second driver sloped surfaces that are configured to engage the first and second flywheel sloped surfaces in a complementary relationship; and an actuator arranged to initiate frictional engagement between the outer rim of the flywheel and the driver profile to transmit energy from the flywheel to the driver to accelerate the driver along the driver axis. - View Dependent Claims (34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42)
