Abstract

A portable terminal performs a printer search using Bluetooth®. In a case where communication different from Bluetooth® communication can be performed between the portable terminal and a particular printer, he portable terminal displays those printing apparatuses found by the search that are able to communicate via a different communication. Those printing apparatuses found by the search that just communicate via Bluetooth® are not displayed.

Claims

1. An information processing apparatus configured to communicate with an image forming apparatus, the information processing apparatus comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the information processing apparatus to perform operations including;

acquiring a packet transmitted from the image forming apparatus and received, by the information processing, by using a first communication method,

attempting to acquire further information from the image forming apparatus that is a sender of the acquired packet by using information contained in the acquired packet, and

controlling, based on information obtained as a result of attempting to acquire the further information, whether or not to display, on a screen for selecting an image forming apparatus of an output destination, an object for selecting the image forming apparatus that is the sender of the acquired packet as an image forming apparatus of an output destination,

wherein a second communication method that is different from the first communication method is used for transmitting print data to the image forming apparatus selected as the output destination via the screen.

2. The information processing apparatus according to claim 1,

wherein, in a case where there is an image forming apparatus that is the image forming apparatus that is the sender of the acquired packet and it is determined as being unable to communicate by using the second communication method according to determination based on the information obtained as the result of attempting to acquire the further information, controlling includes displaying, on the screen, an object for notifying that there is the image forming apparatus that is unable to communicate, and

wherein controlling display of the object for selection and of the object for notification includes controlling to display the object for selection and the object for notification differently from each other on the screen.

3. The information processing apparatus according to claim 2, wherein controlling to display includes controlling to display the object for notification in a gray-out state on the screen.

4. The information processing apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the packet transmitted by using the first communication method is an Advertise packet conforming to Bluetooth®

standard.

5. A control method for controlling an information processing apparatus configured to communicate with an external apparatus by using a first communication method and a second communication method that is different from the first communication method, the control method comprising:

acquiring a packet transmitted from an image forming apparatus and received, by the information processing, by using the first communication method;

attempting to acquire further information from the image forming apparatus that is a sender of the acquired packet by using information contained in the acquired packet; and

controlling, based on information obtained as a result of attempting to acquire the further information, whether or not to display, on a screen for selecting an image forming apparatus of an output destination, an object for selecting the image forming apparatus that is the sender of the acquired packet as an image forming apparatus of an output destination,

wherein the second communication method is used for transmitting print data to the image forming apparatus selected as the output destination via the screen.

6. The control method according to claim 5,

wherein, in a case where there is an image forming apparatus that is the image forming apparatus that is the sender of the acquired packet and it is determined as being unable to communicate by using the second communication method according to determination based on the information obtained as the result of attempting to acquire the further information, controlling includes displaying, on the screen, an object for notifying that there is the image forming apparatus that is unable to communicate, and

wherein controlling display of the object for selection and of the object for notification includes controlling to display the object for selection and the object for notification differently from each other on the screen.

7. The control method according to claim 6, wherein controlling to display includes controlling to display the object for notification in a gray-out state on the screen.

8. The control method according to claim 5, wherein the packet transmitted by using the first communication method is an Advertise packet conforming to Bluetooth®

standard.

9. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a computer-executable program for causing a computer to execute a control method for controlling an information processing apparatus configured to communicate with an external apparatus by using a first communication method and a second communication method that is different from the first communication method, the control method comprising:

acquiring a packet transmitted from an image forming apparatus and received, by the information processing, by using the first communication method;

attempting to acquire further information from the image forming apparatus that is a sender of the acquired packet by using information contained in the acquired packet; and

controlling, based on information obtained as a result of attempting to acquire the further information, whether or not to display, on a screen for selecting an image forming apparatus of an output destination, an object for selecting the image forming apparatus that is the sender of the acquired packet as an image forming apparatus of an output destination,

wherein the second communication method is used for transmitting print data to the image forming apparatus selected as the output destination via the screen.
