Abstract

A system and method for backwashing a sand filter in a wastewater treatment system. In one aspect, the invention can be a system for backwashing a sand filter comprising: a sand filter configured to remove solids from an untreated wastewater; a container storing chlorine fluidly coupled to the sand filter by a chlorine supply manifold; a flow control mechanism positioned on the chlorine supply manifold between the container and the sand filter, the flow control mechanism alterable between a first position whereby chlorine cannot flow from the container to the sand filter and a second position whereby chlorine flows from the container to the sand filter, the flow control mechanism being biased into the first position; and a processor operably coupled to the flow control mechanism and configured to automatically actuate the flow control mechanism into the second position upon detecting that the sand filter is being backwashed.

59. A frac tank system comprising:

a frac tank having an inner cavity, a body of fluid having a surface level contained within the inner cavity of the frac tank;

an aerator system comprising a blower that is permanently mounted to the frac tank and one or more conduits coupled to the blower; and

wherein the aerator system is configured to introduce a gas into the body of fluid from a bottom portion of the inner cavity to aerate the body of fluid and prevent solid particles from accumulating on a floor of the frac tank.

60. The frac tank system of claim 59 wherein the blower is welded to the frac tank.

61. The frac tank system of claim 59 wherein the one or more conduits are fluidly coupled to a manifold that is positioned on the floor of the frac tank and wherein the gas is introduced into the body of fluid through the manifold.

62. The frac tank system of claim 61 wherein the manifold comprises a plurality of nozzles through which the gas exits the manifold into the body of fluid.

63. The frac tank system of claim 59 wherein the inner cavity of the frac tank is divided into an aeration chamber and a discharge chamber, and wherein the aerator system introduces the gas into the aeration chamber while no gas is introduced into the discharge chamber.

64. The frac tank system of claim 63 wherein the aeration chamber and the discharge chamber are separated by a weir, and wherein the body of fluid can flow above the weir between the aeration chamber and the discharge chamber.

65. The frac tank system of claim 63 further comprising a first exit port formed into a sidewall of the frac tank and a second exit port formed into a sidewall of the frac tank, wherein a floating intake pipe extends from the second exit port to a location near the surface level of the body of fluid.

66. The frac tank system of claim 65 wherein the first exit port is configured to draw a portion of the body of fluid from the discharge chamber from a bottom portion of the body of fluid and wherein the second exit port is configured to draw a portion of the body of fluid from the discharge chamber from a top portion of the body of fluid.

67. A frac tank system comprising:

a frac tank having an inner cavity, a body of fluid having a surface level contained within the inner cavity of the frac tank;

a weir dividing the inner cavity into an aeration chamber and a discharge chamber;

at least one inlet port formed into a first sidewall of the frac tank for introducing the fluid into the aeration chamber;

a first outlet port formed into a second sidewall of the frac tank for drawing the fluid from a bottom portion of the discharge chamber;

a second outlet port formed into the second sidewall of the frac tank for drawing the fluid from a top portion of the discharge chamber; and

a floating intake pipe fluidly coupled to the second outlet port, and wherein the floating intake pipe draws the fluid from the surface level of the body of fluid.

68. The frac tank system of claim 67 further comprising an aeration system comprising a blower mounted on the frac tank, an air supply conduit fluidly coupled to the blower, and a manifold fluidly coupled to the air supply conduit, the manifold having a plurality of nozzles formed therein for introducing air into the aeration chamber.

69. The frac tank system of claim 68 wherein the manifold is positioned on a floor of the aeration chamber for introducing the air into the aeration chamber in an upward direction from the floor of the aeration chamber, and wherein the air is not introduced into the discharge chamber.
