Abstract

A gaming object includes an orientation sensor that generates orientation data in response to the orientation of the gaming object. An actuator that generates interaction data in response to an action of a user. A transceiver sends an RF signal to a game device that indicates the orientation data and the interaction data. The game device generates display data for display on a display device that contains at least one interactive item, and wherein the at least one interactive item is interactive in response to the orientation data and the interaction data.

Claims

1. A gaming object comprising:

a sensing tag, configured to;

generate orientation data indicating at least one of a position or orientation of the sensing tag; and

send a radio-frequency (RF) signal to a game device, wherein the RF signal indicates the orientation data; and

a capacitive sensor including a capacitive layer having a charge that generates interactive data in response to actions of a user including touch of the user in proximity to the capacitive layer;

wherein the game device generates at least one interactive item for display in response to the orientation data and the interactive data.

2. The gaming object of claim 1, wherein positioning of the sensing tag can be determined within a positioning tolerance at a positioning rate.

3. The gaming object of claim 1, wherein motion of the sensing tag can be tracked within a motion tracking tolerance at a motion tracking update rate.

4. The gaming object of claim 1, wherein the sensing tag is further configured to generate the orientation data periodically, according to a predetermined interval.

5. The gaming object of claim 1, wherein the sensing tag is further configured to determine a position in three-dimensional space of the sensing tag based on RF signals transmitted from the game device.

6. The gaming object of claim 1, wherein the sensing tag includes a plurality of sensing tags, and wherein the gaming object is configured to compile the orientation data of the plurality of sensing tags and send the compiled orientation data to the game device.

The gaming object of claim 1, wherein the at least one interactive item generated by the game device includes a menu item displayed on a display device that is selectable when the orientation of the sensing tag corresponds to an orientation in alignment with the menu item when the interaction data is received.

The gaming object of claim 1, wherein the at least one interactive item generated by the game device includes a graphics item displayed on a display device and wherein an interaction is generated when the orientation of the sensing tag corresponds to an orientation in alignment with the graphics item.

9. A mobile communication device comprising:

a gaming object configured to compile orientation data from a plurality of sensing tags; and

a sensing tag, configured to;

receive a first radio-frequency (RF) signal from a game device;

generate, based on the first RF signal, the orientation data indicating at least one of a position or orientation of the sensing tag; and

send a second RF signal to the game device, wherein the RF signal indicates the orientation data;

wherein the game device generates at least one interactive item for display in response to the orientation data.

10. The mobile communication device of claim 9, wherein positioning of the sensing tag can be determined within a positioning tolerance at a positioning rate.

11. The mobile communication device of claim 9, wherein motion of the sensing tag can be tracked within a motion tracking tolerance at a motion tracking update rate.

12. The mobile communication of claim 9, the sensing tag further configured to generate the orientation data once every predetermined interval.

13. The mobile communication of claim 9, wherein a position, in three-dimensional space, of the sensing tag relative to a second sensing tag in the gaming object can be used to determine the orientation of the gaming object.

14. A method, comprising:

receiving, by a gaming object, a first radio-frequency (RF) signal from a game device;

generating, by the gaming object based on the first RF signal, orientation data indicating at least one of a position or orientation of the gaming object; and

sending, by the gaming object, a second RF signal to the game device, wherein the RF signal indicates the orientation data;

wherein the game device generates at least one interactive item for display in response to the orientation data.

15. The method of claim 15, wherein the at least one interactive item generated by the game device includes a menu item displayed on a display device that is selectable when the orientation of the sensing tag corresponds to an orientation in alignment with the menu item when the interaction data is received.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the at least one interactive item generated by the game device includes a graphics item displayed on a display device and wherein an interaction is generated when the orientation of the sensing tag corresponds to an orientation in alignment with the graphics item.

17. The method of claim 15, further comprising generating the orientation data periodically, according to a predetermined interval.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein a position, in three-dimensional space, of the sensing tag relative to a second sensing tag in the gaming object can be used to determine the orientation of the gaming object.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein the sensing tag includes a plurality of sensing tags, and wherein the gaming object is configured to compile the orientation data of the plurality of sensing tags and send the compiled orientation data to the game device.

20. The method of claim 15, wherein positioning of the sensing tag can be determined within a positioning tolerance at a positioning rate.
