A binding apparatus including a plurality of generally coaxially arranged binding coils. Each binding coil includes a pair of generally parallel wires terminating in a tip. Each binding coil is coupled to an adjacent binding coil by a connection portion extending generally parallel to an axis of the binding apparatus. At least one binding coil is directly circumferentially attached to itself, or to a connection portion.

21. A binding apparatus system comprising:

a binding apparatus including a plurality of generally coaxially arranged binding coils, each binding coil including a pair of generally parallel wires terminating in a tip, each binding coil being coupled to an adjacent binding coil by a connection portion extending parallel to an axis of the binding apparatus; and a locking device including a spine and a plurality of finger elements extending outwardly away from said spine, each finger element being configured to fit between the pair of wires of a binding coil to couple the locking device to the binding apparatus. - View Dependent Claims (22, 23, 24, 25)
