PORTABLE METROLOGY STANDS
First Claim
1. A portable metrology tripod comprising:
- three upper leg tubes attached by way of a shoulder and a base support;
at least one hard stop between the shoulder and the base support which, when engaged, prevents the upper leg tubes from rotating outwardly;
a center column positioned between the upper leg tubes;
a clamping collar surrounding the center column;
struts connected to the clamping collar;
wherein a tensioning nut is threaded onto the clamping collar, and wherein tightening of the tensioning nut results in holding the upper leg tubes between the struts and the at least one hard stops.

Abstract
A portable metrology stand is disclosed that has three primary legs, which are rigidly, rotatably attached to a base support, which prevents the leg tubes from rotating outwardly beyond a defined angle by adjustable hard stops associated with the base support. The base support is itself supported by a center column disposed between the three legs. The legs are rigidly displaced from the center column by struts. A tensioning nut is threaded onto a bottom end of a clamping collar which is pulled up against an adjustable snap-ring in a snap-ring groove in the center column. Tightening the tensioning nut onto the clamping collar draws the clamping collar down into the tensioning nut thereby forcing outwardly the struts and forcing the legs against the adjustable hard stops.

10. A portable metrology stand comprising:
three primary leg tubes connected to a base support member that prevents the leg tubes from rotating outwardly, the base support structure being supported by a top portion of a partially-threaded center column positioned between the three leg tubes, the leg tubes being displaced from the center column by struts connected to a clamping collar surrounding the center column, wherein a compression nut is threaded onto an upper portion of the clamping collar, and wherein tightening of the compression nut results in maintaining the legs in a state of tension between the struts and a contact point between the base support member and the shoulder member. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14, 15)

16. A portable metrology stand comprising:
three primary leg tubes rotatably attached to a base support structure that prevents the leg tubes from rotating outwardly by adjustable hard stops in communication with the base support structure, the base support structure being supported by a top portion of a center column disposed between the three leg tubes, the leg tubes being rigidly displaced from the center column by struts connected to a clamping collar surrounding the center column, whereby movement of the tensioning nut is restricted by a snap-ring in a snap-ring groove in the center column, and wherein tightening of the tensioning nut maintains the legs in a state of tension between the struts and the adjustable hard stops.
