Abstract

Embodiments of a multi-form factor Information Handling System (IHS) with automatically reconfigurable palm rejection are described. In an illustrative, non-limiting embodiment, an IHS may include: a processor and a memory coupled to the processor, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by the processor, cause the IHS to: identify a posture of a second display relative to a first display; select a palm rejection setting corresponding to the posture; and apply the palm rejection setting to at least one of: the first display or the second display.

Claims

1. An Information Handling System (IHS), comprising:

a processor; and

a memory coupled to the processor, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by the processor, cause the IHS to;

identify a posture of a second display relative to a first display;

select a palm rejection setting corresponding to the posture; and

apply the palm rejection setting to at least one of;

the first display or the second display.

2. The IHS of claim 1, wherein to identify the posture, the program instructions, upon execution by the processor, further cause the IHS to receive an indication of an angle of a hinge coupling the first display to the second display.

3. The IHS of claim 2, wherein to identify the posture, the program instructions, upon execution by the processor, further cause the IHS to:

identify a first range of angles as a closed posture;

identify a second range of angles as a laptop posture;

identify a third range of angles as a stand or tent posture;

identify a fourth range of angles as a canvas posture;

or

identify a fifth range of angles as a tablet posture.

4. The IHS of claim 3, wherein the posture is identified as the laptop posture in response to:

the first display being placed at an obtuse angle with respect to the second display, and the second display being placed in a horizontal position with a display surface facing up.

5. The IHS of claim 4, wherein to apply the palm rejection setting, the program instructions, upon execution, further cause the IHS to:

apply a first palm rejection setting to the first display;

apply the first palm rejection setting to a top portion of the second display; and

apply a second palm rejection setting that is more aggressive than the first palm rejection setting to a bottom portion of the second display.

6. The IHS of claim 5, wherein the top and bottom portions of the second display are selected based upon a position of a keyboard disposed on top of the second display.

7. The IHS of claim 3, wherein the posture is identified as the canvas posture in response to:

the first display being placed at a straight angle with respect to the second display, and the first and second displays being placed in a horizontal position with first and second display surfaces facing up.

8. The IHS of claim 7, wherein to select the palm rejection setting, the program instructions, upon execution, further cause the IHS to:

select a first palm rejection setting in response to a determination that the canvas posture is in portrait mode;

or

select a second palm rejection setting in response to a determination that the canvas posture is in landscape mode.

9. The IHS of claim 3, wherein the posture is identified as the tablet posture in response to:

a first display surface of the first display being placed facing up, and a back surface of the first display being placed against a back surface of the second display.

10. The IHS of claim 9, wherein to apply the palm rejection setting, the program instructions, upon execution, further cause the IHS to turn off touch on the second display.

11. The IHS of claim 3, wherein the posture is identified as the stand posture in response to the first display being placed at an acute angle with respect to the second display.

12. The IHS of claim 3, wherein the posture is identified as the tent posture in response to a first display surface of the first display being placed at an obtuse angle with respect to a second display surface of the second display.

13. The IHS of claim 1, wherein to identify the posture, the program instructions, upon execution by the processor, further cause the IHS to determine that the IHS is presently being moved or manipulated.

14. The IHS of claim 13, wherein the program instructions, upon execution by the processor, further cause the IHS to turn off touch in at least one of the first display or the second display while the IHS is being moved or manipulated.

15. The IHS of claim 14, wherein the program instructions, upon execution by the processor, further cause the IHS to turn off touch in at least one of the first display or the second display in response to movement or manipulation having a velocity or acceleration above a threshold.

16. The IHS of claim 1, wherein to apply the palm rejection setting, the program instructions, upon execution by the processor, further cause the IHS to select a size and a position of a touch input area provided via the first or second displays.

17. A method, comprising:

identifying a posture of a second display relative to a first display;

selecting a palm rejection setting corresponding to the posture; and

applying the palm rejection setting to at least one of;

the first display or the second display.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein identifying the posture further comprises identifying an angle of a hinge coupling the first display to the second display.

19. A hardware memory device having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by a processor of an Information Handling System (IHS), cause the IHS to:

identify a posture of a second display relative to a first display;

select a palm rejection setting corresponding to the posture; and

apply the palm rejection setting to at least one of;

the first display or the second display.

20. The hardware memory device of claim 19, wherein the program instructions, upon execution by the processor, further cause the IHS to apply (i) a first palm rejection setting to a first portion of the second display and (ii) a second palm rejection setting to a second portion of the second display, wherein the first and second portions of the second display are selected based upon a position of a keyboard disposed on top of the second display.
